Steamy and slippery, but a great hike. I was on my own so only wet as far as Boyd’s Butte.

Great track. Tricky to find the trail branching off the creek at the start, from there onwards there are adequate trailer markers en route. We question the distance and timings noted on this all trails map. 7.6kms and about 3 hours out and back. It took us 3.5 hours and garmin said 6ish kms just to summit. Perhaps we took a very scenic route unknowingly?? There were trail markers we followed the entire route and we are fairly fit. From the summit we decided to head back the border trail so we ended up doing the entire loop and coming back the border trail. Longer but avoided having to descend some steep sections. Def rate it if you want a picturesque and challenging trail

it is a real heart pumping track with no signs except those ribbons left by blessing hikers if you are off track you are in trouble with barbed wires.

Beautiful trail. Follow pink markers as the trail gets really faint at times. Some of the biggest and best native fig trees I’ve seen.

Cascades to Butte was great, track often hard to follow.. butte to cougals was a nightmare with lots of barbed plants. Recommend 2L water min.

Great walk through rainforest. Some parts are steep and rocky but worth the view at Boyd’s Butte. Was planning to walk to the Cougals but left at lunchtime and ran out of time.

Did the full loop anticlockwise from cougal carpark. Challenging hike with some steep sections that required some scrambling. Amazing views from the Butte and Mt Cougal. Track was overgrown in places, and the offline map came in handy when we couldn’t see the pink tags.

Took this trail up to Boyd’s butte yesterday. Didn’t see anyone else on the trail. Nice views at the top after some scrambling. Trail markers were easy to follow.

HikingOff trail

We hiked there yesterday from the Currumbin Cascades car park. Take the old saw mill concrete path and veer off to left at the end for off track trail to Boyd’s and the summit. We had to cross the creek to the right to go up (after a few incorrect calls). Alltrails app was helpful to find the path and also to get to Boyds. There is plenty of orange and pink tape all the way. The scramble up to the summit is technically challenging straight up the side of the mountain, through scree , boulders and tree roots. That part was fun. We came unstuck on the descent and couldn’t find the marked path, mucked around with Alltrails for about an hour before conceding we were lost. In the end we had to take the Rabbit fence Qld/NSW border back down. By luck, the fire trails between trail heads join up so you can do one big loop! The rabbit fence is also an easy path down, no scrambling, nicely worn path. Next time we do it, we will take more tape to make markers closer to top of ascent. Only saw one other person out there and he was also lost trying to find his way back down. I also lost my pink Oakley sunglasses, if anyone happens across them. (Expensive hike)

Walked up Cougal Cascades and followed the trail which criss crossed the creek several times. Did not manage to find the trail up to Boyd's Butte. Pretty bush though.

If you like a challenge then this is the hike for you.. well marked for most of the trail, you can easily get off trail but just keep an eye out for the pink/orange markers. Turn right if you wish to summit Boyds Butt..

Challenging but great. Hard to see trail markers (pink tape) sometimes. Steep sections with lose soil. Might help to give yourself extra time to get down
