Green Mountains: Main Border Track and Albert River Circuit Loop is a 12.6 mile loop trail located near O'Reilly, Queensland, Australia that features a river and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and backpacking.
Albert River runs off the main border track. Very private hike with hardly any other hikers to be seen. Tracks run along the river with lots of waterfalls. Really enjoyed this one as a solo hike. Track is reasonably easy to spot.
Great hike, lots to see, would have been hard if it had rained in the past month. Highly recommend!
Beautiful day walk and also as an overnight if you stay at Echo Point campsite. Spectacular night sky! Need to book campsite. Waterfalls, majestic ancient Antarctic Beech Trees, small easy river crossings. Was waiting for the dinosaurs to make an appearance! Not a difficult walk, but need to be able to complete the distance. A favourite walk.
Beautiful hike! The hours flew by and all of the waterfalls (and echo point look out) were beautiful! Made the mistake of wearing Timberlands so was covered in blisters but if I had decent hiking boots it would be very doable! Took us 7.5 hours but that’s with stops and we were super slow at the end due to sore feet. We wore gaiters to protect from leeches which worked a treat. Make sure you have waterproof shoe lining or spare socks.
unforgettable experience. took our time with 20 Kms. took bit over 8 hours. compare with other tracks the elevation bit low.
Very easy track, I accidentally went wrong way at beginning of loop but found my way and took me 5hrs to do 26km, conditions were nice and cool and saw two friendly king parrots
Excellent hike. Wet underfoot and surprisingly cold. Very peaceful. I do question the distance. At the entrance to the circuit it says 16km. Then when you add in 5.5km each way to Green Mountain Carpark?? My GPS clocked 29km (we did a little extra). Interested to know if the stated measurement includes return to Carpark? My GPS did lose signal a couple of times briefly, but that should only distort km time on a couple of points.
With the recent rains, the path was flooded in multiple places, there were many creek crossings that were quite deep, we scrambled over 3 fallen trees, under another 2 and around another half a dozen. There were land slides along the track to also be navigated. These conditions are to be expected given the amount of rain this area has received, but if you are not ready for a challenge hiking these difficult conditions, this hike is not for you. It is a very quiet track with no other hikers passed during our hike. The track itself and the park is absolutely beautiful with a number of waterfalls to be seen. We saw 4 blue crays in the creeks and on the path which was a highlight. I would definitely hike this track again when the conditions are a bit better as it is a fantastic hike! We clocked 21.5km in 5 1/2 hours. **Make sure to wear long clothing as the leeches are EVERYWHERE!**
Another one that isn’t hard. It’s long but the track is easy to follow and the three or four creek crossings are very easy to get over. I went on winter solstice so I started in the dark with my head torch. About 11kms of this track is the border track which is very easy. I clocked 22.3kms in 5h 2m.
