HikingGreat!Rocky

From the day use area, the hike is a relatively flat & easy trip to the artists cascades area. Beautiful swim spot at the 1st falls & despite walking on the Australia Day weekend it was pretty isolated w/ no families or noisy groups. After the artists cascades area, the path follows onto the booloumba falls track. The follow on path is not that obvious, so after crossing the water look for a backwards facing sign on the left. The path will then continue on after climbing some rocks around the back of the artists cascade. The path then continues straight up towards the booloumba falls, which takes bout 1 - 1.5 hrs to reach. Moderate fitness & good footwear is required to reach the end point. Personally I found the artists cascades the best part of the hike, as the booloumba falls can get relatively crowded (there's a 4wd Rd that goes directly there from the base camps). Despite that it was well worth the trip to the top as the summit is one of the highest points around. All around the track is well worth it & a good test of your fitness. Do yourself a favour & go for a swim at the artists retreat before or afterwards.

OHV/Off-road driving

The views are stunning, the clear water is GORGEOUS. The wildlife is blossoming, excellent for those who love bird watching! There are a few river crossing though, some that go up to your knees depending on wether or not it has been flooding, a super weather dependant walk as the water quality goes down as well. Other than that it's a stunning dirt road walk to the actual walking circuit.

Walked from the day use area to Wongai walkers camp Nice camp area with tent pads not on top of each other The track after the artist cascades gets a bit steep and very slippery when it’s wet. In the wet. Be ready for plenty of leeches Bushmans spray will help

Great afternoon hike. Should have left a bit earlier in the morning to get the sun on the falls at the end but was thoroughly enjoyable. Loved it. All up including a bunch of photos and some swimming took 5.5hrs doing a return trip. Approximately 20.8kms

I read through the reviews and saw one stating that you will need a 4WD or to park your car and go on foot to pass the creeks, I managed to get past the first two creeks by creek hopping but the third one was too big and too dangerous to try, I still managed to rack up a few K’s from walking to the track and back to the car and it was superb, beautiful to its core, just a shame I couldn’t actually do the walk this time

Did the trip to the artists cascades via the gold mine and stranglers cairn, was well worth the hike even though they weren’t flowing much.

Unless you have a 4WD you may need to park about 2-3km from the start of the walk and cross 2 creeks. walk itself was fine, especially if you enjoy forest, but on the easy side.
