Getting There

This is a great day-hike out to Flinders Peak with spectacular views from the summit toward the nearby rugged mountain peaks of the Scenic Rim and the Bremer River catchment. Keep your eyes out as Flinders Peak supports native fauna including the brush-tailed rock wallaby, peregrine falcon and the wedge-tailed eagle. This is graded as a difficult trail as the terrain is unmodified, the alignment is indistinct, and a high level of fitness and level of specialised outdoor skills including navigation are required. There are steep rock scrambling and rock hopping sections that shouldn't be attempted when wet. Signage is for management purposes only so be sure to carry appropriate GPS equipment with you and to have plenty of water for the return hike.

Picnic tables, shelter, toilets, barbecues and an information signage at the Flinders Plum Picnic Area.

Car parking at the trailhead at Flinders Plum Picnic Area.

Hiking

Lovely hike, a lot of rock hopping and a decent scramble towards the end. Saw children completing it. We left Brisbane at approximately 4.40am, started hike by around 6am but had to do an extra day 4km due to road flooding. We reached the summit by 8am had breakfast and some coffee and we were back in Brisbane by 11.30ish :).

great walk. slippery. when you come down the canyon watch out to stay on the proper path which is smaller than the one to the caves

Me and my mate were lucky to have a cooler day to check this walk out. It was indeed a hard trek up to the two summits but the views were fantastic. Pretty rocky climb in places. When coming back down we took a wrong turn to the left hand side of the Peak and found the large caves which looked great. We then had to climb back up to the top which was a struggle. Overall we left at 6.30am and got back about 10.30am......a top walk!

What a hike. Lots of rock climbing and long grass, I am only a beginner at hiking and round this track quite good took roughly 1 1/2 to get to the top. Lots spots to take pictures. The climb down was a struggle I had to have multiple breaks

Great trail! Some tall grass in a few spots. If you follow the yellow arrows dotted around towards the end of the hike you'll have no issues. The drive in & out was on a dirt road with lots of blind corners so just be cautious. There's a fair few boulders and logs to sit on if you need a rest on the way (I know I needed a few). It took 2 hours up for me and 1 hour back down, but that's with a few stops to take some photos & catch my breath.

Great track and not one for the unprepared. 1.5hrs to the top for a person relatively fit with good shoes and a 10kg pack on so most people can do it. Fantastic views along the track and some really good scrambles. I recommend starting this one no later than 6am.

It’s a hard hike, if you’re not overly fit. It took 1.42 hours and 5.03km, don’t do this in the middle of the day like we did. Take plenty of water and good shoes!

Rocks, dirt, overgrown, slippery All that in one. Trail is easy to navigate. Can be done in half a day. Many climb early in the morning to catch the sun rise - and that is a challenge at some parts of the track. Little over six Kilometers.

Excellent views at the various lookouts and especially from the peak. Make sure to start at least 4-5 hours before dark... some slippery bits that can use caution and trying to pick your way back down over the rocks in the dark could be a trial.
