LONG-TERM CLOSURE: As of March 2021 this track is closed due to safety concerns. This will be reviewed in May 2021. Please check here for updates https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/walking-tracks/wollumbin-mount-warning-summit-track Wollumbin (Mount Warning) is on lands of the Bundjalung People who are the Traditional Owners. Wollumbin is a sacred place to the Bundjalung People and visitors are asked to respect the wishes of the Elders and avoid climbing this mountain. Under traditional Bundjalung law, only certain people can climb to the summit of Wollumbin. For some of the best views of Wollumbin, you can visit the nearby Nightcap or Border Ranges National Park. If you decide to climb this peak, please take every precaution to do so safely. The summit trail is steep and difficult and the weather can change dramatically in a short time. To reach the summit you will need to be fit and capable enough to overcome the 100m technical rock scramble. Plan for the return hike to take 5-6 hours and start as early as possible to avoid crowds, especially on weekends.

Hiking

I’ve done this hike 3 times now, twice the views were hidden due to cloudy weather but the other time the views were outstanding & totally worth the climb. Fairly easy hike with lots of stairs but the top part with the chain is a little difficult especially if like me you are scared of heights ! It can get congested around the chains and I recommend going as early in the am as you can :-) Currently closed

This mountain is sacred to the Bundjalung and many would prefer you don't climb. If you climb learn something of the history of the Bundjalung and the massacres they suffered. Wollumbin gets around 160,000 visitors a year - this is not a nature walk but, depending on your point of view, an occupation, but certainly not a nature walk.

WalkingGreat!

I did this a few years ago. Nice steady climb with a rock fall with a chain at the top. Don’t be intimidated however, the chain part isn’t too hard. But you will need to use your hands. Great view at the top on a sunny day!

Done this one twice now and it gets better each time, honestly. Challenging at times as it’s straight uphill for the entire hike but the view at the very top is worth every sweaty second!

Such a great hike. Definitely recommend wearing good/ light shoes to extra grip as there is a climb at the top with a metal chain (400m long) before you reach the summit. Plenty of helicopter pads every 1.5km into the trail, to overlook the views or just break for a quick sip of water. We went really early in the morning so it was nice and cool and you can see the sunrise either as you are ascending or by the time you reach the top. Middle of May was a great time, not too hot or too cold. Start climbing at 4:30-5am for an ~1-1.5hour climb for fit/ advanced climbers.

Très bon sentier, assez facile dans l’ensemble, monté en 1h10 et descendu en 1h, attention aux roches très glissantes ! Très beau panorama en haut !!

Second time, still amazing, wouldn't class it as hard, just a steep bit with a chain at the end.

Beautiful hike through the rain forest. Definitely not for the faint of heart, it is an upward grind the entire way. The scramble was extremely straight forward with some chains to aid you, again requires a good level of physical fitness! 1h15 up, challenge someone to beat it!

Hiked in summer. Path is clear and easy to follow. The whole trail was pretty much shaded except near the summit.

It’s a great hiking, but in my opinion, because of its end (kind of climbing rocks) it should be rated as hard. We took 4 hours to get to the top... the scene is amazing, specially the sunrise!!!

Hiking

I started this hike at 4.10am in pursuit of a summit sunrise. I’m in pretty good shape and found the incline moderate and overall easy enough, most difficult (but also most fun) on the chains right before summit. Arrived at summit at 5.40am, in time for sunrise. I found the view nice, but not breathtaking. On the way down I was able to see the vegetation which was pretty and interesting. The descent took 1 hour 45 mins. Some confusion on the distance; All Trails states 8.7kms & 607m elevation gain, the sign at the trail head says 9kms and 720m elevation gain, and my Health app on my iPhone recorded 10.5kms.
