Sublime Point Track is a 1.5 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Austinmer, New South Wales, Australia that features a great forest setting and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips.
The Dharawal and Tharawal peoples are the traditional owners of the Illawarra region, with the Sublime Point lookout providing an opportunity to reflect on the landscape from such an expansive vantage point. This is an extremely steep and fairly narrow track that offers great views of the Illawarra. The track can be busy at times and you may have to step off the track at times to let others past. The track is mostly shaded and getting to the start of the track is easy. This hike is well worth it due to the stunning views it greats you with at the top and at certain points on the way up!
Great to get the heart pumping on the ascent & knees wobbling on the descent
Great views. Steep but ladders are only in last section, and very sturdy. Track well maintained.
Requires some skill to walk, especially Wodi Wodi Walking Track (not recommended to beginners). Soft soil and unclear paths.
Starting at Stanwell Park station on the Wodi-Wodi track. Track is narrow and slippery, but winds through lush forest with ocean views behind. Turn onto Forest Path and climb escarpment to enjoy views from lookout points. Continue to Sublime Point. Descend via path and ladders to Austinmer station.
Best to do the walk on a cloudy day during the week as it gets super busy otherwise! I love this walk, the stairs, the trees and the view transform any mood into a good one!
Once you get to the top and catch your breath you can keep going along a trail past the toilets. My trail shows the path to Stanwell Park. The last part on the Wodi Wodi is very rugged so I suggest experienced hikers only.
we started from the bottom. it was very challenging on the way up but worth it for the final view. The ladders were very fun. I recommend starting from the bottom.
Nice loop walk with a steep climb on to the escarpment rewarded with great views. We were lucky to see whale breaching from Sublime Point Lookout
A steep, but beautifully scenic descent from Sublime Point lookout to just before Austinmer, turning south on the Gibson track towards Thirroul. The first leg to Austinmer is a narrow descent with several steep ladders. The track is really well maintained, and if you take it slowly, perfectly safe, even with younger children (say >6y). The south leg is an easy meander through the woods. The track is not comprehensively indicated, but pretty easy to follow. A lovely walk.
