Walking

The trails through the bush are good and easy to follow. Instead of going along the road to Shoalhaven Heads, as the trail suggests, we walked along the beach to the first track that then goes past the golf course. We had parked our car near there. It is not easy walking on the sand for such a distamce and it is on an incline so it seemed to take forever to get to Shoalhaven Heads. The beach on that section is quite different to the beach at Gerroa. However, the beach is more beautiful than the road..probably not great for a bike though. Until I found this trail app we had thought the bush track continued to Shoalhaven Heads. Now I know more about it I suggest being well prepared with water and food and make a day of it if you plan on walking the trails and beach to Shoalhaven Heads.

The trail from Gerroa picnic area for 5kms is a very easy ride in lovely coastal forest. No obstacles and flat. This is the best part of the ride and worth doing. After the first half, the trail cones out onto the highway for the remaining 5kms to the start of Shoalhaven Heads. The shoulder of the road is wide so no major problems with traffic. This is also flat and easy but not particularly interesting unless you want to check out Shoalhaven Heads township. The trail map here ends in no mans land so you’ll do an extra few kms if you want to go into the town. My recommendation is the bush track and leave the road ride out.

Running

Great flat trail for running, was quiet busy with Mountain bike riders. Shady through the bushy track. Enjoyed this run

Flat ride through low lying rainforest. Trails open up to a handful of secluded beach entries. Nobody else on track, making for a peaceful ride in a beautiful setting. Some sandy sections require lower tire pressure and gear selection. Some nice narrow winding trails makes things interesting.
