Sassafras Gully Victory Track and Magdala Gully Track Loop is a 6.5 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Sydney, New South Wales, Australia that features a waterfall and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, camping, and backpacking.
A challenging track, also known as Sassafras Gully Loop, starting near Springwood Station at the picnic area it encompasses varied terrain through the gullies and alongside Magdala Creek and Sassafras Creek. It passes through dense bushland which gives it shade with rock formations and waterfalls. You will need to cross a stream several times and where the trail continues is not really obvious. There is an option to make this an overnight trip by staying at the Perch Ponds Campsite before returning. And you could extend the walk to Martins Lookout. Points of interest include Magdala Falls, Martins Falls, Lawsons Lookout, Glenbrook Creek and Picnic Point.
Some navigation skills are recommended.
Nice walk, with plenty challenges on the way - fallen trees and creek crossing
Lovely, lots of water, helps to be small in the first part. Tall people will be ducking. Lots of trees down means crawling or climbing. Your call.
really good at the sasafrass gully end, the middle is very overgrown with spiders everywhere. dont bother stopping at perchs pool its not nice but martins waterfall was excellent for lunch. really gorgeous. you could do this one quickly but you will probably do it slow, because its so pretty. allow 5-6 hours so you can really soak it in. also, from a Fittness perspective, I would say this was moderately easy, not hard.
Good fun. Majority isn’t hard, but the ascent back up requires some effort. There’s also various bits with trees across that need a bit of a scramble. I tackled this late afternoon on a sunny 30+ day. Plenty of shade but be warned even from around 5 the lower parts get quite dark. Any later and I think it would be too much. Do this one with plenty of time! Good views. Thoroughly enjoyable.
This is quite a strenuous trail at times but with a number of easy track sections as it follows creek gullies and at one end follows Glenbrook Creek. At the time of writing trees have fallen on many parts of the track making traversing difficult for some. Certainly not recommended for inexperienced or unfit individuals. However on the plus side the interests along the trail, including overhanging rocks, fern gullies, creeks, magnificent old tree growth wildflowers and the occasional wildlife including came Lyrebirds, King Parrots, Bowerbirds, Bush Turkeys and a couple of large ducks who seem to have made a nice home for themselves near a creek pool. The track has few elevations as it mostly follows the gullies but there is a good climb back up once you get towards Springwood. Well recommended
A few friends and I headed out this weekend and there were quite a few fallen trees and large fallen logs since I went about 3 weeks ago. Definitely bring the trail notes as the debris pushed us off track a few times but otherwise a very beautiful and challenging hike.
Love this trail. Nice and narrow following gully’s and creeks. Awesome little waterfalls
