This is an off-trail bushwalk. The entire route is along the bed of the Howes Valley Creek and Macdonald River (except for a short section along the main road linking the start and end points of the walk). Most of the route is sandy creek walking, with the occasional small waterfall / cascade and boulders. There are plenty of camping spots along the river.
