Note: As of August 11, 2020, users have reported that the last section of the trail (the downhill) is currently CLOSED. Please consult the park's website before visiting. The Dharawal and Tharawal peoples are the traditional owners of the Illawarra region, with the Sublime Point lookout providing an opportunity to reflect on the landscape from such an expansive vantage point. This well-used track is moderately difficult due to the steep and quite direct ascent of the escarpment to the cliff line. It includes some slippery, partly eroded steeply inclined sections, stepped sections under the upper cliffs (hundreds of steps) and several steel ladder sections toward the top of the cliff. The rewards are great with many coastal views glimpsed through the forest along the way and panoramic views from up top, there are even cafes up the top too but can get quite busy. There is an extra 5km to walk along the escarpment edge, past Panorama House to Cliffhanger Cafe for a coffee before returning back to Sublime Point and making your descent.

HikingGreat!

Hard track very steep but that’s what you’ve got to expect with this short walk with such big elevation, really well kept and the views at the top are awesome, keep an eye out for loads of birds, lizards and if you’re lucky some fur!

Your fitness level and if you're afraid of heights should be taken into consideration before climbing. There are stairs most of the way up the mountain and vertical ladders when youre almost at the top. there is a shop and toilets at the lop. Once completed you get a sense of accomplishment when you get to the top and it is worth the view. you can see all of the Illawarra. The track is well used and very busy.

quite difficult from Footshill road side but happy I started there. the stairs are a gluteus maximus adventure. the track is quite busy. did a 6am Saturday morning start and was surprised at how busy it was. the views are spectacular at the top. make sure you walk all the way to the top and don't stop at the bench chair at the top of the hill as many hikers were sitting on grass patch thinking thats the only view. worth every sweat bead and the fauna is amazing. well maintained track and bring a hiking stick as it came in so handy on the descent back to reality.

Great rugged scramble up hill with stunning views, a cafe and cruisy (but steep) stairs back down from sublime. Don’t know what all the bad reviews are about - just be prepared: proper shoes/boots, bug spray and sense of adventure. Follow the pink markers. Loved it.

if you start the walk from Austinmere railway station, the first part is on the road. we started at the cul-de-sac in foothills Rd. The walk up to sublime point was, just that - it goes up. if you don't like steep ladders, then not recommended. Otherwise its a great workout. We stupidly did this walk in heavy rain. By the time we got to walking along the escarpment the track had become a river and at times, we were up to our ankles in water. As for the last part of our walk ( the downhill), there is a big sign that says the track is closed. We were soaking wet and didn't want to go back through the water so again we stupidly soldiered on. That was a mistake, but also an adventure that I would not recommend. its closed for a very good reason. I would only attempt this if you are experienced in navigation, experienced in bush bashing and willing to potentially get hurt. whoever put up the markers around the trees on this part of the track deserves a huge thank you.

Assess your fitness level before attempting this hike. There are 4 benches to rest on before getting to the ladders. Great views and a cafe await you at the top. The reason for the 3-star review is for the trek AllTrails shows for the way down. It’s not horrible, but again, assess your fitness level. If you had a hard time going up the steps and ladders, you will definitely have a hard time going down the way shown here; go down the ladders. Oh, and once you get to the bottom, you will find a danger sign warning you not to go that way.

First to Review

There are some pretty steep sections to this - lots and lots of stairs (including two almost vertical ladders) to get your cardio up. Once you are at the top, the views are amazing!
