Cerro Tronador Summit Trail

HARD 3 reviews

Cerro Tronador Summit Trail is a 29.9 kilometer out and back trail located near Bariloche, Rio Negro, Argentina that offers scenic views and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking, camping, and backpacking and is best used from December until March.

Distance: 29.9 km Elevation Gain: 2,329 m Route Type: Out & Back

Note: The Argentine side risks becoming no longer accessible due to increasingly warm weather in the region destabilizing the glaciers. Tronador is located along the border between Argentina and Chile near the city of Bariloche, in the southern Andes. There are two refugees on Tronador, but you also can camp outside the refugee for free. There are good places to put you tent, and the water is good.

Amazing experience. Family of 4, parents in their 40’s, one child 14 and another child 10. Took us 5 hours. We spent the night at Refugio Otto Meiling and took a tour walking and climbing the glaciers the next morning. Then came down to the base, another 5 hours, and took transportation back to Bariloche City. Would do it again in a heartbeat. Lovely view, people super friendly, trail very well marked, you can’t get lost if you follow the trail.
