This trail offers a variety of different terrains, a lush forest, waterfalls, and some spectacular views. You will also have to cross a stream. Along the way you will find a colorful Refugio Lopez (a classic South American mountain refuge). You can make arrangements to stay the night there. Before you reach the summit, you will also find La Hoya (the pit), a small mountain lake. From here, the trail can get a bit more serious and steep before you reach the summit.

This one was tough. Hiked this at the end of November & should’ve been better prepared with snow gear. Amazing views all the way up and once you get to the Refugio forget about it, INSANE! 10 out of 5 stars!!!

Started the trail between 9-10AM. Not much traffic to get up to the refugio. Expect steep climb up to the arroyo and beyond. Very rocky and sometimes having to scramble. Once you reach the road it is much less steep and easier. Again a steep incline up to the refugio. Amazing views throughout. Way back down was more crowded with hikers and given the steepness and gravel, expect a few slips and falls. Totally worth it!

One of the most impressive alpine hikes I’ve been on. Stunning views of snow-capped mountains, lakes, forests, ledges and more. Saw two condors! There were times the trail could be a little busy for my taste and the refugio was crowded, but for the most part I had space to enjoy the environment. Hiked on a Friday in January - would probably avoid weekends in high season for this reason, but the quality of trail, climate and landscape were unbeatable!
