Can concur with the previous review. There is a section with an unconnected cord. But it’s important to point out that even then it’s not at all scary. I gave it four stars because the views really weren’t that spectacular but if you’re looking for exercise and a moderately taxing and very pleasant way to spend about four hours (very easy pace) then this is a great way to do that. I wish I had experience with other trails on the island to let you all know if this is the best use of your time but I was quite pleased with the experience. Lots of bars/restaurants on the way down if you’re feeling like sitting and having a bite or drink and looking down on the beautiful valley.

This was an absolute highlight of our trip. I recommend you make a reservation at the refugio altavista so you can hike up early and see the sunrise at the top of teide! You can either take the cable car up the night before and hike to the refugio OR you can hike up via the montaña blanca route. I recommend the cable car. Then at 4:30 AM, everyone wakes up at the refuge and walks up to the top to see the sunrise together - it’s incredible. From there you can either hike back down or take the cable car.

Map shows starting at La Caldera and goes to Mamio but doesn't go Pinolere so if your idea is to view the museum there it is a lot further. The trail should be renamed.

Good trail with great views. Would say moderate to hard and no good if you have difficulty with heights and drops. In one place the path is just a foot wide with a sheer drop where you are supposed to hold onto a steel cable but it has come out and isn't attached. Other places the cable is fine but be aware.

I'd it wasn't raining I'd probably give it 5 stars... but, I wouldn't know cos I missed out on all the views!

Be warned! This is for the most part not a path you follow, it is mostly a scramble in a general direction guided by the track in AllTrails. Not for novices. You will find your way and there are quite some cairns to help out, but you will be in trouble without gps. Even though it’s only 10k, and the altitude map doesn’t look scary this trail took us well over 4 hours.

Did the round trip in less than five hours from the parkinglot at the hotel. Bring water for sure.

This is a hard trip to the 2nd highest mountain of the island. The trails are however good. The reward is the astonishing view from the peak down into the gigantic crater of mount Viejo. We did the mount Guajara roundtrip from the same starting point a few days before which was the perfect training as it was 25% easier than Pico Viejo.

Amazing!

Nice one

Easy start through some wild scenery, watching the clouds roll over the mountains from above. The hike then becomes a lot harder as you make the ascent to the top. Be wary of bus times though as it is very easy to miss the last bus home and be forced to take the cable car down to try to catch it
