#1 - Allariz y Río Arnoia

Length: 5.6 mi • Est. 2 h 54 m
Follow the fisher's path arriving at the campsite and after to the Portovello garden this is the starting point of the route. The path starts at the Portovello Garden, and after crossing the wooden bridge, continue along the right bank of the Arnoia, seeing to the right the Garden Festival (open from May to November, approximately). Attention, some stretches can be flooded when the river grows larger, and by going along the banks of the bleachers near the river, you have no problem. You will see a bridge that allows you to cross the river to the Football Field of Seixo and the campsite, but continue along the right bank, until the Briñal, where there are two rural tourism houses. After passing them, cross the stone bridge and continue along the left bank to a point where you continue the signpost of the walk (green arrows) that goes up a paved path to Portela de Magarelos, a village with typical houses. Following the walk head up to the church of San Trocado, where you can stop for lunch in the church hall, as there is not much shade. You have views of Mount Penamá and the so-called Terra do Millo (parish of Seoane and San Martiño de Pazó). From here, to Magarelos, another village that surprises with baskets. The track here will take a few turns, there is no signpost. Take the always right path, there are areas that are somewhat blinded and with whistles and some bumps, so thick long pants and a good stick are recommended to keep the vegetation away. If you carry a sickle, you pave the way for those who come after you! This path takes us to the asphalted track that comes from Corvillón towards Covas do Río, go down to the right until you find the dirt track that goes down to the Ermida Bridge (3 kms), an abandoned village. The return to Allariz, by the fishermen's path, a little way of goats, which offers us a view of an Arnoia enclosed in sections between cliffs, abandoned mills, two stone bridges to cross the river (half collapsed) and the rehabilitated mill of the Escadas , already in the municipality of Allariz. Tip carefully that the path can be slippery, and more so in wet weather. And some stretches may be affected if the river goes too high. Finally you reach the Briñal.Show more

This route allows you to visit the villages of Valverde, Requeixo, Bosque do Rexo (sculptures and trees painted by Ibarrola) and after crossing the poldra, the path partly follows the signposting of the Allariz walk by Fondevila and As Roofs, where you turn east passing over the top of the Acea de Meire to Abuín, where you will follow a stretch of the N525 to take a path that takes you to Acearrica, a leisure and bathing area in the Arnoia and up to the starting point of the Roteiro. (Which is just on the bend of the Barrier, where the remains of the foundations of the gate of the wall are.) Route is mostly paved, but also using paths, as you visit the hamlets of Valverde, Requeixo and then to the "Rexo forest" (Rexo forest echoes, stones and trees painted by Ibarrola). After crossing the Arnoia river using a traditional bridge ('poldra' or 'pontella') follow the green signs of the 'Andaina' (it's a yearly walking journey in the area) passing by Fondevila and As Telladas. Here head left of these signs and proceed to the upper part of Acea de Meire, crossing the road to Vilar de Flores, heading west until Abuín (Hostal Limia and petrol station). There you follow shortly the national road N525, and you will take a path on our left, until the river and the recreation area of Acearrica. Going up, you arrive until the departure point, just at the remains of the former gate of the city walls (just on the curve at the Barreira or Campo da Feira, close to the bar called A Muralla).Show more
