Starting from Monistrol de Montserrat, the beginning of the trail is not easy to find and the car park is usually full very early in the morning, so it is recommended to get up early to do this route. This path could become a loop using both the GR-96 and GR-5. This route (GR-96) is slightly steeper and goes directly to the top of Montserrat, while the GR-5 curves around the mountain a bit before reaching the top. The GR-96 is one of the oldest documented roads in this area. It was used by pilgrims to go to the sacred mountain of Montserrat. You can also use this trail to start the route to Sant Jeroni.Show more

Montserrat could be considered the most famous hike in Catalonia. The trailhead is tricky to find. There might not be parking at the trailhead, most visitors take the train or bus to the area and then walk to the trailhead. Visitors with cars could probably park in town and walk to the trailhead. This trail could be made into a loop by using GR-96. It is slightly more steep, and goes directly up to the Montserrat summit, whereas GR-5 curves around the mountain a bit before reaching the summit.Show more

Visitors with cars could probably park in town and walk to the trailhead. This route starts on GR-5 eventually reaching the top of Montserrat. The way down is on GR-96, which is slightly steeper, and goes more directly down the mountain. GR-5 is more of a curve around the mountain as it gains altitude. This loop could also be done counter-clockwise, starting on GR-96.Show more

The route to the Montserrat Monastery from the Carretera de Montserrat car park is highly recommended for its wildest and most isolated part through forest and dirt roads with the mixture of human hands and the majesty of the Benedictine monastery itself.Show more
