Length: 37.6 mi • Est. Multi-day
This route is part of a multi week long walk or ride, along the Transpirenaica (GR 11). The Transpirenaica (GR 11) is a long distance trail that crosses the Pyrenees for about 800 kilometers. It travels across the Spanish Pyrenees from Llança to Hondarribia. It crosses Spain from one side to the other, from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic or vice versa. It can be done by foot or bike (mountain bike with saddlebags) at a variety of paces and starting points, from east to west or west to east. The whole itinerary is quite well marked with white and red painted blazes and it has a good number of hostels and shelters along the way or you can wild camp. It goes along all types of terrain, mostly off-road, rugged and rocky in some areas. The views are breathtaking. The great adventure of the Pyrenees from east to west, on its southern slope, from the Mediterranean (Llança as starting point) to the Atlantic (and Hondarribia as the final point). Take as a reference guide "The crossing of the Pyrenees on BTT", by Jordi Laparra and published by Prames, following its main itinerary except to take the Ordesa-Sierra de Cutas variant. Starting from Noguera Pallaresa, in Pallars Sobirà, you will ascend through the Baiasca Valley to Coll de Rat, from where you skirt Montsent de Pallars to Coll del Triador, to descend to Vall Fosca, already in Pallars Jussa. From Llavorsí, after a few kilometers next to the Noguera Pallaresa, you will go up the Baiasca Valley, passing through Arestui, until Coll del Rat. You will continue to ascend to the Refugio de Quatrepins, leaving the access trail to the Super Espot station, to skirt the southern slopes of the Massif del Montsent de Pallars. After the Coll de la Portella, the highlight of the stage, you will cross the slopes of the abandoned ski resort of Llessui, and reach the Coll del Triador, where a vertiginous descent begins to Espui, at the bottom of the Vall Fosca, ending in La Torre de Cabdella.
