#1 - Camino Primitivo Full Route
Oviedo, Asturias, SpainLength: 185.9 mi • Est. Multi-day
The Original Way or Primitive Way has this name since it was the first route to Santiago de Compostela, when in the 9th century most of Spain was still under Arab control. The Camino de Santiago became the de facto symbol of the reconquest and oppression of Christians. Today, the "Primitive Way" is the most challenging of all routes. It crosses the Cambrian mountains, with stunning views over the Picos de Europa, giving hikers the opportunity to live a pure hiking experience. The second part, in the Roman city of Lugo, is a quiet walk through forests and farmland, joining the French Way to Santiago de Compostela, in Melide.
