This is a brief route to one of the most accessible lakes in the Tena Valley. The access to the Piedrafita Icon is mostly made by a forest track cutting into traffic. If you go in the winter, remember to wear snowshoes. A beautiful and moderate hike.Show more

The trail goes along the slopes of the mountains, bypassing the Palticos balneological resort, and there is no need to go down there first and then rise again (unless of course you spend the night there - there is a review). The path is marked with pyramids so far, but well laid. And it’s very nice to walk along it, because wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and the valley below lie. After 2.5 km, a pipeline from Panticosa rises to the trail and then goes along the trail, giving it a certain charm. There are a couple of tunnels on the trail, punched when laying the pipeline, the longest is about 30 m and, in principle, you can pass them without flashlights. After 4 km from the beginning, the trail connects with the main GR 11 and from here begins the ascent to the Brazato pass. The climb is not too difficult, but there are a couple of sites with loose and stone scree. Particularly difficult is the site in front of the pass, when going around the Brazato lakes, due to a continuous loose mix with stone fragments. The passage along it, 600 meters long, took more than half an hour. In the end, after 4 hours we climbed the Brazato Pass (2566 m). After a rest, we began the descent into the valley of the Ara River, which promised to be long. We had to go 14.5 km and go down almost 1600 m. After the first tens of meters of the normal path, we entered the endless fields of loose and stone scree. We walked on them for more than 1.5 hours. This is scary exhausting. Everything ever ends, the rash ended. And the trail went through the meadows and forests of the Ara Valley, bordering the mountains to the very edge.Show more
