HikingGreat!

This was one of my favorite hikes in the area. I started out from Bubión and connected with the trail right before the first bridge. There are great views from both sides of the gorge, and the path segments are varied - some out in sunny fields and some in shaded, wooded areas - so you see different types of scenery. It’s also a nice mix of uphill/downhill and flat trail segments, so it’s a fun hike. I actually took a side excursion by climbing down to the river via a path near the first bridge and following the river upstream for quite awhile, essentially creating my own ruta acuática, which was really nice.

Hiking

I’m giving this hike 3 out of 5 stars, because the first 2/3 was beautiful and the last 1/3 was the worst. I followed the trail directions and went through the beautiful part first. By the time I got to the top area where you look down on the valley, it was pretty hot, and then there is zero shade from then on. Once you go through that beautiful section, you literally just go straight down a paved cement road for the last third. It’s a residential area that’s mostly bordered by chain link fences, and it seems like it goes on forever. If I would’ve known, I would’ve turned around after the first 2/3 and gone back through the rocks and river area again. Also, I went on a Wednesday in August, and the trail was really busy. There were loads of families and big groups, so it got pretty crowded in some areas. As most people have said, do the loop backward from what the map shows. Then you have the uphill hike in full sun first, and the wooded downhill part last. Because 2/3 of the hike is so gorgeous, it’s worth going, but I’d probably try an alternate route for the long segment walking on the road.

HikingGreat!

I started in Bubión, because I was staying there, and went up to Capileira and then down to Pampaneira and back to Bubión. The scenery is beautiful, and I think it’s a moderate level, though there are some steep rocky/gravel bits. I hiked it in August, starting at noon, but there was actually a lot more shade than I expected. Two things others have mentioned - bring bug spray and take your GPS/phone. It’s pretty buggy in the wooded areas, and the trails are not well marked. Overall, it’s a great hike, and I’d definitely do it again.

Fantastic trail that scales away from the crowds and above Caminito Del Rey (known as the King's Little Path in English on Alltrails.) The King's Little Path is famous and has great views while in the gorge, but you are on a platform with a helmet and crowds. This path rises above the gorge with amazing views of the gorge, the river, and the surrounding dams. At the midway overlook you reach the nesting grounds of the rarely seen golden eagles and local vultures and can watch them soar by you close enough to touch. Be cautious, there is no railing here. In November, one sees and smells wild rosemary, thyme, and oregano along the trail. There is a small tunnel at the end (or start if you do this route backwards) and it can be done without a headlamp or flashlight but it would not hurt to have one or simply use your phone flashlight the 50 meters.

I absolutely loved this hike. We went begin November so we’re lucky to be spoiled with beautiful autumn colors. We did the hike in very cloudy and rainy weather but even then the views were stunning. Not to heavy, but not always good marked (We used the app a few times to check if we were right).

Absolutely stunning trail most of the time. From south to north, in the right season, lots of wildflowers and enough variation in fauna and flora. Interesting historical features along the way, and cafes and albergues aplenty. Enjoyed this 7-8 week walk/hike very much. Didn’t find it hard overall but there were certainly some tough sections. Most of the trail very good to walk on, with only some rocky or after rain sticky mud sections. Moderate amount of on-road walking involved which we found harder on our feet than anything else.

The trail has a variety of terrain. It makes it interesting. At a certain point, we had to crawl on all fours under a rock face. There are also 4 suspended bridges. at the highest point, where you'll see olive trees, the view is magnificent - perfect for a picnic. Don't go on weekends: apparently it gets busy.

Many ways to do it, different paths and roads. Hanging bridges, falls, caves and open outdoors to hike next to the river Monachil or up in Cahorros Altos.

It was perfect: a bit of challenge in the canyon (first half), then easier (a picnic then is a good idea), then the slope down to town for vino and cerveca with tapas.

Beautiful hike... we travelled clockwise so had an uphill climb for first 2k... but well worth the vistas! Then enjoyed the shady fun area for the second half! Lots of variety in terrain... way less busier our direction! A lot of hikers just do the in and out for suspension bridges and gorge! Beautiful day!

Beau parcours mais plutôt difficile de Pampaneira à Capileira. En revanche les traversées des villages sont superbes.
