Hiking

Wow such an awesome invigorating hike. This season is ideal, clear blue skies, very cool and clean air and the leaves starting to turn to stunning autumn colours and of course very few hikers. I recommend ascending from Government Complex Gwacheon station exit 10 short walk to the starting point. The ascent was very doable and the trail well maintained mix of stones and stairs. There were some hard going parts but on the whole not too difficult. Lots of shade and no mosquitoes. The trail follows a rocky stream which was dry at this time of the year but still pleasent crossing the bridges. Just before the peak you can rest at the temples and admire the South Eastern views, then more steep steps to the rocky peak was worth it. Find some shade chill, snack and rehydrate. The locals are so friendly happy to take photos for you. Hats off to the elders very fit and full of energy, I saw on 2 occasions runners not hikers. I hope when I get old I can have a fraction of energy the elders have here. For my descent I wanted to hike back to my home near Sadang dong, so at the rocky peak follow the left side fence up and over the peak and carefully descend using the ropes, this will take you to the Sadang and Dongjak gu routes. Then following the ridge there's a series of peaks which offer fabulous North facing views and the river Han. Lots of safe stairs and clearly sign posted. Generally the hike is safe but take your time no rush. You will pass a number of interesting abandoned bunkers from the war and of course lots of natural beauty. At around the Geobukbawi area I then joined the Dongjak trail which is on a North slightly West bearing. This trail is easy going and takes you over 2 eco bridges. So this overall hike combines 2 trails.

Took a wrong turn and ended up taking a steeper but shorter trail. Made it to the top either way.

Definitely the direction to hike this point to point trail. Don’t forget your trekking poles! The ascent is only around 6km, but very steep in multiple locations. You start off at Namseoraksan Information Center. The trail offers great views of the valleys below as well as a waterfall. The trail overall is well trafficked and maintained, but mostly rock scrambles with stairs mixed in. The peak is generally in the clouds, but offers a great alpine experience with the vegetation and I am sure the views on clear days are amazing. The descent is what makes this hike better than Hallasan. The views as you climb into the gorge are incredible, especially with how steep the decline can be at times. After you descend from the alpine region you have great views of all the valleys below and there are some incredible rock formations. As you descend in the valley you follow a spring stream that creates multiple waterfalls. Despite being a valley you get the feeling of being in a mountain pass that opens into some of the most incredible views Korea has to offer. The trail is mostly stairs and rock scrambles eventually evening in a road with about 3kms to go. I highly recommend this hike, but it is quite challenging and will require some conditioning prior to trying it out.

Hiking

Long 8 mile hike with no views. Wonderful because DOGS ALLOWED on lease, but there are no scenic views which makes the hike feel underwhelming. Trail splits multiple times throughout the hike, but the split ultimately merges again shortly after splits. The right side has a greater elevation gain and the left side is generally less of an incline. There is a bathroom stop 2 miles in to the hike. Beware of mountain bikers.

Wonderful trail! You will pay 2,000 won to hike. Very well maintained trail with water spouts and toilets along the way. There are NO DOGS allowed on this hike unless you are “disabled” as told to me by the workers there.

There are many ways to the top, if you follow my recording it's fairly straightforward. One section is medium difficulty, the rest is easy. The view at the top is great with 360 degree views of the area. Lost a star only from the trash on the trail.

HikingGreat!Rocky

Pretty solid views! I’m not sure what else was up there, some temples and some kind of soju or saki bar maybe?? Anyway, the hike up starts really easy and then about 1.4km in it shoots up and gets fairy hard, get ready for steep switchbacks. It’s harder on the way down in my opinion. The hike in total only takes about 1.5 hours up or down I think it is absolutely worth the trek!

Great trail for trail running and family hikes. Lots of places to stop with gazebos and workout equipment. Beautiful scenery. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars is the lack of majestic views. Will definitely be back!

Incredible hike. The waterfall that follows you up most of the trail was a really nice addition. The trail was fairly moderate.
