Great trail! Good condition albeit having been severely impacted by fire.

An delightful trail with a worthwhile view at the turn point. There is a stream halfway. The water is drinkable if you are used drinking mountain water. About 50m upstream are some small pools for wallowing.

It's very moderate at the base of the mountain and scenic. The trails are clearly marked and well maintained. it gets very steep and hard. to the point that your knees touch your chest as you climb the steps. Very worth it. Once at the top, it's windy. Be careful not to get blown off the mountain.

Nice hike also for the kids, nice waterfall's

harder to get down to the river where it's marked

Plants have all been devastated by a big fire in 2020. Otherwise, beautiful, challenging and interesting hike (I would suggest doing over 2 days).

Loved this trail, direct and beautiful. Keep going to Maclear's beacon, the true summit! Follow my instagram for more adventures @julie_journeys

The trail definitely lives up to it’s Hard rating. Beautiful views, wildlife and a strenuous hike

Done it 3 times, beautiful route

Great hike, great views.

First things first, there is a day permit fee of R50, no cash. From the gate of the nature reserve to the start of the trail you will need a high profile car. Smaller cars can take the bumpy gravel ride but I advise a 4x4 or SUV. The reserve closes at 6pm, without checking if there are cars still inside. Plan to start your hike early in the day. It’s a tough trail with loose rocks and steep climbs. The views at the top are breathtaking though. This is not a hike for chancers. You need to be sure about your fitness. The board at the start of the trail reads 17,1km but the loop is about 13,4km and can be completed just under 6hours.

I would recommend this trail. It is dog friendly with great views. Go early morning as there is no shade. There are helpful signs where to turn. Some are overgrown with shrubs. If you do the hike anti clocks one can stop at Silwermine waterfall. In winter there is plenty of water. The hike took us over 2 hours.

Very steep. Not good for running. Hiking.. not much great views.

Very steep. Took us 1h45, no breaks, running every time we could. For people in shape. More hiking than cross country running.

Beautiful! Tough hike and the loose rocks coming down is a bit hectic, but the scenery and being outdoors is so worth it.

This trail led me to download this app. Missed the turn for the India Venster route because the trail is hidden behind the sign. Continued on the contour trail until found the chain leading up. Hike proceeded to get even harder from there. The last bit I would recommend climbing safety gear for anyone not used to free climbing. While there are adequate foot and handholds, the consequences for missed grip or fatigue are catastrophic. American hikers are used to overblown caution signs usually directed at novices; believe the hype on this one. Great views and amazing that this qualifies as a trail.
