to challenge a 3 year old to a hike - this was the perfect starting point

Lovely easy hike, good for kids and pets. Only a few steep areas. We went the opposite way around (right at the fork) to the way this route is laid out. It was a steadier climb. Stunning views. No shade. Bring bug spray.

Not as picturesque as Skeleton gorge. Simple - part of the trail goes along the road. Don’t miss first lake at the top - worth swimming in it to the dam at the opposite side of the reservoir

Great trail. Starts out easy and misery index turns up from there. Can get cold, windy, wet, even in summer. Windbreaker, sweater, etc a must.

This is a beautiful, strenuous, inspiring one-way 14km / 9mile hike from the south end of the Table Mountain formation at Hout Bay, to the north end at the cable car which descends into Cape Town. The south half of this trail is only lightly trafficked, and offers solitude in a wilderness setting. The north half has heavier usage, but is equally beautiful. The trail crosses undulating terrain across the top of the 12 Apostles, through fynbos & chest-high grasses, and crazy rock formations. This includes a side-jaunt to the hidden and very cool, Tranquility Cracks. The climb up from the Suikerbossie trail head in Hout Bay has significant height exposure in several spots, with a few assisted with permanent anchors (staples, short section of rope). A hiker with a fear of heights will probably have anxious moments. Once on top, an easy summit of Judas Peak provides stunning views to the south all the way down the Cape Peninsula. From there the rail winds north providing one amazing view after another. There are limited small streams of water in the north half of this hike, which can be filtered for good drinking water. Otherwise, carry lots of water for this strenuous hike. A hiker could exit the hike at the mid-way point down the intermediate Kasteelspoort Ravine into Camps Bay. We concluded the hike at the north end with a ride down the cable car / tram. If one intends to hike down, the steep thousand-steps Platteklip Gorge is 1km east of the cable car top.

Amazing trail, shaded lots of different views. And once you get to the top the dam is so pretty so see. Definitely recommend this trail, it’s not for unfit people though

Very straightforward hike that gets you up Table Mountain simply and efficiently on a clearly marked path. Great views of course to the sea plus really interesting rock formations at the top plus some small water features such as the dams.

Beautiful hike that led to a rainbow-colored reservoir! Very hard, thought we were lost on the trail but turns out you just have to scramble up the stream for a bit!

I enjoyed every second!! The scenery, the waterfalls, the caves, the ladders, the RESERVOIR WAS BREATHTAKING! I saw pictures and was inspired to see it but I was blown away still. It was windy and misty but the mysterious look and feel made it even more spectacular.

Beautiful hike with amazing views over the False Bay Area. Great with kids and dogs. A bit rocky at the end but nothing serious. Walk from the first mountain bike car park to the right. There is a small entrance fee . Cash only

It is not as much traffic on this trail as AllTrails makes you believe. In winter aka now there are hardly any people around even on weekends. It is an easy hike of 2.5 hrs but there are may trails around it to make it a circular route instead of an in and out ( which is boring, right? ;) ).

Great scramble up Skeleton Gorge from Kirstenbosch with ladders but longer than planned. Hiked past reservoirs and eventually reached summit. Extensive views over Cape Town. Took cableway back down.

Nice trail. All though you have to guess how to get to the nice falls/pools. Nice and relaxing though

Surprised that there is no water in the lake on top of the mountain. Trail is stunning as always

Water holes - picnic spots - fun easy walk for the family and friends - a must do

Best hike ever - awesome nature display - hard hike

Kid friendly with great views, picnic area needs bit of work

Start your hiking career here.

Highly recommended for anyone that wants to challenge themselves. We picked a day when it was overcast and windy up on the mountain

Take advantage of the side trails to customise this walk, especially if you return to do it again.

Great area for all types of hiking and trail walking. There are a number of side paths for you to make your own route. Lot's of trees and there are a few small streams to help cool down. Super family and pet friendly.

one of my favourites. you can make this into an in and out track or into a loop by switching onto one of the other trails. some parts shaded with incredible vistas and some other parts in the sun. I nice easy trail depending again on how you do it. recently had a fall on a mother mountain and this trail was the perfect one to get back on the proverbial horse so to speak. we wen up the jeep track and climbed a little against the side by the houses and then merged with an blue mountain back track until we hit the jeep track again.

One of the best hikes in the Megaliesberg. Lots of pools, the best rock pool is the at the end of the hike (before turning around to hike back). The top pool has amazing cliff jumps, and there is a second rock-pool on the way out near the end of the hike as well. The hike runs parallel to the streams and there is water consistently available. There is very little shade on this hike so bring sunscreen. Permits need to be purchased in advance. Good luck and happy hiking
