Length: 8.3 mi • Est. 5 h 8 m
This hike starts from Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge and gently descends into the Mahai valley going through forests and crossing rivers. There is a steep hike up to the spectacular Gudu falls through Gudu forest. This makes for a great picnic stop and swimming area if you can brave the cool mountain waters. Retrace your steps until you reach the sign for The Crack which is a steep ascent through a narrow gulley in the cliff-face that contains two wooden and one chain ladder to help ascend to the top. Once you reach the top of The Crack then it is a gentler uphill back to the lodge parking lot.Show more

Length: 149.5 mi • Est. Multi-day
A different route of the official Drakensberg Grand Traverse, following more of the escarpment and not too much the valleys. Making the hike about 240 km long. Many will say this is more scenic and most of the hike goes inside Lesotho. No trails, beautiful scenery every day at all times, even when rainy and foggy. With excellent orienteering skills, this hike can be done without a guide. Without good orienteering skills, get a guide. If needed, a porter can be booked and you should expect one porter to carry up to max 10 kg. A permit can be purchased at start near Sentinel car park.Show more

This is a 5.3km hike from Witsieshoek Mountain Lodge parking lot. It is a flat loop so nice and easy. It provides beautiful views into Royal Natal from above because it is around 2200m above sea level. Half the hike is in Kwa-Zulu Natal and the other half in the Free State.Show more
