Very nice hike at the Napoleon Bridge, where the parking lot is. It's only 3.5 km, but they have it all. Along the Soca, through World War I trails, views of the Soca valley, rock formations and finally the Kosjak waterfall. There are pictures and reports in the travel blog: https: //schönen-aussicht.de/kozjak-wasserfall/Show more

Mount Krn (wrongly known in Italian as Monte Nero - Mount Black) has always been shrouded in charm, real history and even the imagination of local traditions. The profile of the southern slope looks like a constant and totally grassy Hypotenuse of a rectangular triangle whose cathets have a ratio of 1 to 1.5 about that starts from an altitude of 1,400 m and reaches the summit at 2,244 m altitude. The northern part, on the other hand, is almost vertical and completely rocky. The mythical peak is now linked to the memory of the conquest of June 15, 1915 by Italian troops who boldly conquered the summit climbing from the south under Austrian fire and the rolling of the boulders caused on purpose. The heroic nature of the enterprise is imprinted in many military and popular songs. But to the feat of this summit was soon added that of Mount Batognica ( named by italians, Monte Rosso - Mount Red) which is boldly proposed from the 4 sides and which can be reached from the west with a "Ferrata" (climbing assisted by a steel rope) on the edge where you still meet the Austrian fortifications. The summit is formed by a wide plateau (more or less like a football field) that saw a hundred years ago a fact never seen before: before retiring the Austrians undermined the headquarters, all shelters, trenches, advanced posts for cannonade, in short, the entire military village with 4.100 kg of nitroglycerine! To make an updated comparison, we could roughly assume a use of almost 5 tons of TNT, moreover, transporting the explosive used in old age if it is very unstable! The desired effect was centered but the whole mountain lost 3 meters of altitude! Today we see the residue of this immense explosion that together with the initial battles and subsequent fans tell the locals that "at the top you walk on the bones of thousands of soldiers. On a mountaineering level, the achievement of the summit of Krn can not be ascribed to anyone except that nomadic shepherd who followed his herds of goats and sheep that still today, left in the wild, populate the summit, while the heifers reach up to 1,900 meters attracted by the herbaceous grazing brachymorphic (excess of ultraviolet rays) but extremely tasty for the high vitamin content. Their massive intrusive presence (they rummage in the backpacks) annoys a lot both because the sheep are looking for salt (bread, crechers) and with a conspicuous release of manure everywhere. The normal route is also the simplest zigzag climb with constant altimetric progression and from the parking lot at an altitude of 1,000 in 3, 3.5 hours leads to the Refuge and then in a few minutes to the summit. There are no difficulties apart from the training required to tackle the climb of over 1250 meters. If the night before it rained some parts of the ground are slippery and it is important to know that at the summit the clear weather in less than ten minutes changes to the new that wraps around the summit and releases rain. You should know that the slope must be faced at 6 or 6.30 in the morning to reach the summit without surprise of rain or cloud that prevents more glacier. If serene you can see Venice Gulf (150 km), Laguna di Marano and Caorle (90 km), the sites of Monfalcone (50 km), the entire Gulf of Trieste up to the point of Umag (HR), the Grossglockner in Austria (120 km) besides the peaks of the eastern Alps that can be identified one by one. From here all the Italian Prealps look like hills, while the locus of where you are gives full dignity of altitude, of "sovereign majesty" that dominates the valleys and all the valley activities that seem minute, ephemeral from which you feel detached and in which you don't want to come back. From the summit of the Krn descend in half an hour following the marked trail to the fork between the two peaks: Nero to the West and Rossa to the East. In the saddle you find commemorative gravestones and the frame of an Austrian cannon specially memorized for the posterity of each nation : mortal sacrifices for a few hectares of rock in addition, unacceptable criteria dinnanze to the joy of peace among peoples. From here you face the West edge of Batognica that seems bold: instead it is not difficult as it is assisted froShow more

The Historical Trail starts from Kobarid (better known as Caporetto in Italian Language) and passes by a monument that commemorates the fallen Italian soldiers during the horrific Battle of Caporetto in October 1917. This WWI battle fought between the Italian and the Austro-Hungarian armies, and their respective allied support troops, is the worst battle ever in history for the fighting conditions and the number of victims. Including civilians, one million humans perished in this battle alone. This track starts near the Kobarid Museum which is well worth a visit. Show more

Length: 6.9 mi • Est. 4 h 36 m
The track starts from Slovenia, from Avsa, where it is easily reached by car. From the beginning of the dirt road we proceed on the slow path which is the route of Lieutenant E. Rommel in 2017 built and after used on the night of October 24th of the same year. Follow the road until you hear the sign (red table with white writing) indicating the connection to the CAI Trail 736 beyond the state border (hundred meters). Continue instead from km 7.9 to the Km 8.9 ( half an hour) for a difficult path with tall grasses, full of rocks and ruined by the wild cow pasture (this stretch of crca 1000 meters is quite challenging and tiring). at the end on the watershed you go to the path CAI 725 (EE = Expert Excursionists) that in 100 meters leads to the top (this part is open and for a stretch of 4 meters can be considered 1 ° - (inferior, as it requires the use of hands). Remarkable trail as historical mark of WWI.Show more
