4.5/5. the trail and views are absolutely stunning in the summer with lots of fast flowing rivers and plwnty of wildflowers popping up. The streams higher up near the base of the mountain are safe to drink! be warned that the trailhead is not marked but is right across from the ranger station. once you reach the base of the mountain, look to your left for a switch back rocky trail that should allow you to ascend. then you have aboit a 1000m scramble up some boulders and slick rock with parches of plants. occasionally you will see mountain goats/sheep so watch out for their droppings. do not attempt to summit in the rain as the rocks become very slick, especially those with moss. summitting the Basteir can be very tricky so only attempt if youre an experienced climber! very enjoyable hike and couples well with the circle trail over by the fairy pools. happy hiking!

I continued after this trail to the nearby peak of Toravaig I believe. Had to walk along a pasture, and farm but found my way up and loved it. Great view of my cruise ship in the bay below

Amazing views entire time

Absolutely stunning. The trailhead is a little hard to find (look for the pie shop and follow the sign posts!), but completely worth it. If it has rained, be prepared to get a little muddy and maybe even jump a few small creeks. Views are amazing and sheep are everywhere. Saw a few lambs nursing along the trial.

To get to trailhead from car park. Go downhill along the road just past the first cottage on your left. Turn left into a driveway. You will see that the driveway splits-one way goes towards the cottage to your left. Go through the iron gate straight ahead of you. You are on the path. It's muddy in spots. Your best experience would be on a sunny day if you can manage it.

Great trail with amazing views! The way back was quite difficult, no real track, muddy, but still great fun.

Beautiful spot ... surreal environment. Only criticism is that the walk down back to the parking lot is very muddy and pretty torn up though.

I’ve done this twice. Once in June of ‘98 and again in August of ‘18. The views are simply unbelievable. Not a difficult hike, but with Scottish weather, it’s best to be prepared. Extremely windy last summer. It’s a must do if on Skye. It was a bit crowded and parking can be a problem

Just beautiful! The trail is easy to follow but quite step at times.

Beautiful! We did it in the evening without the crowd, it’s not hard to believe in fairy’s when walking around the Fairy Glen!

Even though it was cloudy, a bit rainy and very windy it was still a very beautiful hike! It wasn’t to hard, but still challenging at times. I would love to do it again, sun or no sun.

Lived up to expectations. The further along you get, the more you shed the crowds. Solid inclines but they don’t last too long. Best views I’ve ever seen. Got lucky to have great weather, no wind, and no clouds. Somewhat boggy and rocky at points, so wear good shoes. Lots of sheep and lambs. Mind the poop!

Lovely trail but it was a shame we got caught in a cloud and couldn’t see anything. Still we’d love to come back and do it again because I bet there’s some great views from the top of that peak. Would say that the trail gets a bit hard to follow at the top
