Potentially dangerous. I'd advise not doing this as It takes you off a trail and just through some bog at first! We we're lucky the weather was good and could get ourselves back on a trail but this took an hour. I think if the conditions were bad with visibility or snow it could be very hard to find it again!

Incredible climb brutal from the get go but incredible views weather changes alot so pack well and last 2 hours before summit was poor visibility and would be easy to loose path but worth every second of it x

Jeeezzz what a day! We had perfect weather but it was really hard. The ridge was a little scary at times and it was hard climb up to the summit. Take hiking poles for the grassy very steep path up from the cabin, put them away for the ridge so you can hang on with your hands. If it had been windy or wet it would have been very dangerous. Save enough energy for the hike down but the normal pony track seems simple in comparison. Be ready for steep drops, exposed ridges and a hard climb to the top. Views are staggering though.

Nice easy walk, but I’d suggest going back the way you go out, as it’s more picturesque than the second half of the route.

We did this route, but rather than going up the CMD Arete we climbed its face from the Memorial Hut to keep our feet dry. On the way back the trail ends up on the boggy swampy field so would recommend hugging Ben Nevis back to the Memorial Hut and coming back to the car park that way. Beautiful trail, breathtaking views. Definitely for the experienced hikers.

this route should not be rated moderate but hard comparing the tourist path is rated as hard. The view is breathtaking but the slop to CMD and to Ben Nevis Submit are scrambling and steep. Also the CMD Arete could be dangerous if weather is windy.

Not actually a route with a path, over half the route is through open bogland and crossing rivers

Amazing trail, wouldn't recommend it to inexperienced hikers though, sometimes the path is unclear (or no path at all?) , especially with bad weather and fog it is quite dangerous and you can easily get lost

Lovely easy trail with great loch and mountain views and of course the added delight of the “Harry Potter” steam train over the stunning viaduct

we only went from abriachan to dumnadrochit but this was just a straight-forward, easy to follow route with some lovely inclines and a beautiful woodland portion too!

we started in Inverness and mad our way to for Augustus around 70 km. some really tough inclines and declines, but absolutely worth it for the views and wild camping spots!

HikingGreat!

Great trail. Quite busy at the starting point at the bottom of the viaduct but the higher up you climb the amount of people becomes significantly less. Beautiful scenery! Definitely worth doing if in the area. Great for novice hikers! If you’re lucky you might spot some amazing wildlife - we managed to get up close and personal with a stag!
