We did this route, but rather than going up the CMD Arete we climbed its face from the Memorial Hut to keep our feet dry. On the way back the trail ends up on the boggy swampy field so would recommend hugging Ben Nevis back to the Memorial Hut and coming back to the car park that way. Beautiful trail, breathtaking views. Definitely for the experienced hikers.

brilliant views on a clear day, went up for the sunrise started at 3.30. its a hard climb of course so be prepared. seen may tourists etc on the way down, loads of people weren't even 5% up the mountain and looked out of gas. it's hard for a reason so start nice and early, make sure to bring the right equipment and clothing as it's cold at the top.

Not actually a route with a path, over half the route is through open bogland and crossing rivers

Completed on a Monday morning and it was busy enough... can’t imagine doing it on a busy weekend! Good challenge in 2nd half of the climb as it got cloudy, windy and rocky which slowed things down. Up and down in 4h 45m. Take lots of water, snacks and warm clothes!

Started off at the visitor center walked through the Glen and up on to Ben nevis. Started off great, good pace and then he hit the windy corner (the steps) and we were nackered. It really was a long walk up with many stops. We done it in 5hrs this was my first time and first munro (definitely not experienced) the zig zags was the hardest for me. Loose rocks and your scrambling the whole way up. When we reached the top it was freezing so definitely wear warm clothes expecially gloves and hat. Honestly it's totally worth doing it, it truly is stunning expecially walking through the clouds.

HikingGreat!Rocky

First time climbing Ben Nevis and it was a new challenge. Completed with my partner and our dog On the way up the weather was beautiful and the views insane. With a beautiful loch as you walk up, views of forests, the other mountains and other lochs in the distance it was stunning. You have to walk across a waterfall which was also pretty epic. But as soon as you hit cloud cover it was cold, wet and windy and you were just on the look out for the next cairn to guide you. The nearer the top you get the rougher it is under foot. Great hike though and really felt like I achieved a great feat! Definitely recommend waterproofs and warm clothing for under that cloud. Although saw a few people running it - Amazing!

Hiking

Hiked Ben Nevis on Sunday August 30th. Overall, I think this hike is pretty easy if you are an avid mountain hiker. The rocky bit prolongs the hike during the last hour. There is plenty of gravel which challenges getting on top at your regular pace and is a leg workout. The surface is quite uneven, therefore you should wear shoes with good ankle support if you are prone to ankle sprains. If you are comfortable otherwise, a trail running shoe should suffice easily, which is what I wore. I’d strongly recommend starting the trail as early as 7/8am because it gets very crowded. Most people seem to start hiking around 9/10. By the time I was coming down, the trail was a hassle to get through. There are groups, families, kids, and dogs. Really packed. I was at the trail head by 8am and made it to the summit by 10:30am. 30min break on top was enough, mostly due to poor weather conditions. It was around 4 degrees but we had some wind that made it worse. Overall good hike with nice views.

Very very busy, but worth it for the achievement! It’s doable if you are not experienced, but it is long... Pack warm clothes for the top.

we only went from abriachan to dumnadrochit but this was just a straight-forward, easy to follow route with some lovely inclines and a beautiful woodland portion too!
