great hike, not too steep. amazing views & easy to reach from the city. you could also visit St Margaret’s Loch near the starting/end point (few minutes walk) if you have time

Don’t miss it, it’s just one of those hikes to do while you’re here. The main trail up is busy but on the backside of Arthur’s Seat (north & west) are a bunch of much less frequented hilltops with fun scramble faces. The full route on this trail will get you there but you can add on. Check out Arthur’s Seat but the other trails are a more enjoyable & enticing playground.

A nice wee break from Edinburgh & only 25 minutes to the trailhead from town. I had a chat with an elderly spry Scottish man (I’m American) who asked if I liked “hill walks” - I do! But these hills are big! This route includes 3 “hill” summits. I had a few additional treats: a small heard of lackadaisical highland cows; a magical forest with Ent-like trees; sighting two red roe deer (they are quite small at first I thought they were dogs!); and catching some huge rabbits/hares unawares. Loved it!

HikingGreat!

Great hike, varying terrain with lovely views of the pentlands. The trail at the peak of West Kip was very narrow at a point which was a tad nervy in the wind. The whole loop took us around 4 hours with stops.

Great to do on a sunny day! Lovely views over the city! 45min to the top. Quite popular trail. Parking costs 1£/hour. Definitely would recommend

This trail gives some breathtaking views along the way and at the top. The trail can get quite windy and chilly in the late fall and winter, but it’s still wonderful.

Beautiful trail, hiked this three times when in Scotland in 2011-2014. Moderately steep but short climb, stunning views from the top, beautiful green meadows up on the summit

For an inner city it's a nice way to spend an hour. Couple of cool viewpoints and undulating terrain. Not for prams or wheelchairs.

No trip to the Edinburgh is complete without tackling Arthur's Seat, the summit of an ancient caldera in the center of Edinburgh. The summit gives your 360 panoramic views of the city. Note that there are several approaches and descents you can take. One path doesn't even summit the caldera but rather takes you merely half way with no path to summit. So, double check your route!

Incredible view. If someone asked me if there was one thing I’d recommend to do in Edinburgh, I’d tell them to hike Arthur’s Seat.

Beautiful walk with very good paths. Did this with a 4 week old in a pram and a 2 year old walking most of the way. (He got a bit tired the last mile) would recommend, and will do it again
