Good consistent hike. Too bad I didn’t get a view at the top because of the clouds but still enjoyed it. Use caution if it’s slippery. That’s all you need to do it fall on a step and bust your head open. Overall great time.

This was a pretty awesome hike on the island of SABA... and doing this hike is pretty much the reason we took the ferry over during our vacation in St. Maarten. We organized a ferry/solo hike through Aquamania (based on St. Maarten... they run one of the main ferries) which included the ferry to/from Saba, a cab ride to/back from Windwardside (right near the trailhead), and a bagged lunch. It made the logistics super easy, and they dropped us off at the trailhead shop in town. The lady working at the shop was super nice... had our lunches ready to go, gave us a map, and also loaned us a walking stick for the day. As for the hike itself... the sign says 90 minutes to the top. I'd like to think we're sturdy hikers and it took us maybe 60 each way. The trail is 'paved'... but not smooth and quite steep. The concrete is broken up in several places and you still very much feel like you're out in the rainforest (gorgeous foliage/canopy... with hummingbirds etc.). There were several nice viewpoints on the way up (especially a little 5 minute side trail up to Mas Cohones Hill which was well marked). The concrete trail was slippery... especially with any recent rain so we were glad to have the hiking sticks. The views at the top were completely fogged out (apparently that's the norm) but it was still fun getting there. There's also a nice stone marker documenting that you've reached the highest point in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. All told it was a fun day trip... easy to organize... and more challenging than expected given the steep terrain and slippery trail. It's still very doable and strongly recommended if you find yourself on Saba.

This was a nice trail - not as hard as I thought it would have been. It was decently maintained, except nothing you can do about the slippery moss when it rains down on you. You can take shelter in the many giant monstera leaves along the trail. It was fun to experience that and see the cloudy mist as you near the top. Not a lot of views along the way there though. Steep uphill all the way there. Look for the goats hanging out on your way up, probably wondering why would anyone hike up this hill?

Lovely hike, but 90% steps so you'll definitely feel it. Snakes, lizards, goats and chickens abound.

You'll feel your heart and lungs going up, your knees going down, but it's worth it! Fantastic cloud forest on top and if the clouds allow it, breath taking views.

We went to Saba on our honeymoon and hiked many of the trails while on the Island. The bottom trail is strenuous, as are most of the hikes on the island. Ask the locals how to plan a hike with a lift back. I would say this is a great hike by most all standards but was my least favorite while on the Island.
