Interesting levada which changes scenery a couple of times. Starts with an open farmland valley and eventually goes into more dense and lust vegetation. Has a nice little picnic zone next to a tiny lake and waterfall and later on the bigger waterfall is very pretty. Some parts of the last section through Levada Nova are not protected so beware.

Incredible hike in the heart of Madeira island, with majestic views of its center valleys. Quite strenuous with very steep elevation gains and loses - burnt around 3000 cals total with return trip but very high reward.

Beginning has dizzying cliffs. sometimes surrounding both sides of the trail (absolutely do not do this trail if you are afraid of heights), then towards the middle (after Pico do Gato) it flattens out a bit (and the vegetation changes slightly), and finally there's a grueling ascent through occasional stairs and ladders towards the end. But it is well worth it!

Can be made in 3 hours although I would recommend something like 4 or 5 hours at least for breaks and pictures.

Insanely beautiful views at the top. You can sea the ocean on one side and the lake on the other.

I also really liked how the view along the hike to get to the lake was ever changing. Open dirt roads through rolling hills, then through the forest, then along the aqueduct system, then up the side of the crater... this is a very mentally stimulating hike.

With that being said, it is a very challenging hike. The uphill climb is steep. It gets pretty muddy in spots. Make sure to bring plenty of water and don't forget to stretch before you go or you'll be very sore the next day! Worth it for the views though.

We actually went with a guide to this waterfall. Very steep dirt road to get to it. Sadly there is some kind of electrical building right at the base of the waterfall that makes significant noise, so the ambience is ruined by it. However the waterfall is pretty and there's a small area for swimming. Just doesn't feel as remote and rural as you'd hope.

Very nice trail with great views and a connecting option towards the ocean and the most recent volcanic addition to the island

Spectacular trail. Also I strongly recommend you go to the boca de inferno miradour somewhat off the trail. It is the most spectacular view in the island!

Easy hike. Nice cafe half way to grab a latte and enjoy the view

beautiful and interesting trail. loved the system of aqueducts as you near the lake. just be aware that the posted trail does not actually show the loop; instead only show the westward leg (presumably that is the "official"trail) -- was a bit confusing. The first part of the hike is steep but it gets much easier and prettier as you ascend.

beautiful views but very easy to lose the trail

Be carreful with the roads pointed by MappsMe at the end of the tour. Those way are really hard.

Ecovia is inside the Nature in Algarve but, unfortunatly there is some parts between along the way that the signs are very bad.
We reccomend this site for more information: http://www.ciclovia.pt/
