Hiking

Our interpretation of the amarelo trail with a different start point coming from the Ponte de Monsanto trail starting from Parque Eduardo VII. We’d recommend taking a break at the miradouro do Moinho do Penedo where there is a nice little cafeteria serving food and drinks.

we did this trail in June/20, heading north from Besteiros. markings are recent, visible and intuitive. there's no risk of getting lost. there are 3 steep climbs that are a bit harder, but the rest of the trail is accessible. this trail is all about experiencing the nature of the ridge, and the path will take you right in the middle of it. it's an amazing trail! we hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Running

When I lived in the Azores this was my favorite trail. Not many people there, it was rare to see anyone else. Beautiful views - I liked how it went through a few very different landscapes Also a great workout.

Hiking

Loop around Monsanto nature area, decent incline around mile 2-3. Slightly confusing around traffic circles as sign posts are not clear around miles 4.5-5.

The waterfall is most likely the highlight of this hike. I began the hike, but realized that the sound of the waterfall was getting further away. After retracing my steps multiple times I finally found the waterfall ( for some reason the trail disappeared from my map, even though I'd downloaded it).

I only walked about the first 3 miles of the trail to the Parque Megalítico dos Coureleiros and then retraced my path. Didn't see any menirs but did see dolmens.

Great Trail with quite a few scenic spots. You might get the chance to see some wildlife such as deer and boar. Be prepared for some climbing and do take the extra energy to go to the peaks and admire the sights. They’re worth it!

This trail is not circular anymore because part of it is private nowadays. It´s possible to climb from de laguna to "Pico do Ferro", a viewpoint at the top of the hill. In the private portion there are a circular paid trail (10 €).

Moderate 3.5hr walk from Faro airport to a campsite in nearby town. Remote dusty roads, beachside paths, and suburban areas.

Moderate difficulty mostly in the section just past half way. Not a dog walking trail, unless you have a very experienced trail dog. the lava rock section is very difficult for any others. Given that it rains pretty frequently here, expect lots of mud and slick roots. The scenery is beautiful.

As described by others. Flat for the most part, beautiful scenery on most of the trail. We found the trail head in town on the “Old Church” Street. Well marked all along the loop. The surprise was the 3 euro per person charge to walk by the Caldeira...attempted to no avail to argue that we were simply walking the loop, we were told parking was free (we had parked in the village so did not have a car to park :) ). Paid the 6 euro and continued our walk.
