Fantastic trail with great views and lots of different terrain. Loved it, but, for us, not well trained hikers, moderate = on the limit...

The first part of this trail is part of the Roman road hike. That trail is well used, mostly flat, and easy to navigate. When we went there was some traffic but not crowded by any means. Some scattered Roman ruins, sound of rushing water, generally very pleasant. Once across the high bridge the trail changes. It was mostly overgrown. Few people use it. Lots of thorns, downed trees, etc. We aren’t afraid of some unkempt trails so we did the first half of the other side of the river, but didn’t do the last mountain. It stopped being pleasant after getting scraped constantly with bushes and thorny plants for an hour so we joined back up with the original trail and competed that way. It could be a great trail with more use or some aggressive path clearing.

Started on this trail at 7 am in the morning in July, and no one was there at that hour. Parking on the road is difficult to find because there isn't any, however, if you park at the camping entrance access point you will have some luck. Although you can't see the parallel roadway from the trail, this riverbank trail does follow the road, so don't worry about getting lost. it's impossible for that to happen with or without the all trails app. You can sometimes hear the cars go by. Here are some pros and cons to this hike. PROS; 1) it can be done in 2 hours roundtrip with a brisk pace. 2) Running Water everywhere and you will cross 3 bridges inorder to stay on the trail 3) Ancient Roman stone trade walk way is still on the trail. 4) Clear water along the river bank. 5) A waterfall at one of the bridges. However, it's not easily accessible by foot. 6) Lots of shade, and very nice climate 7) Easy to hike regardless of experience 8) Very green rainforest hike environment CONS: 1) Bugs everywhere, because there's so much water. Wear long sleeve shirts and pants, so that you can avoid getting bit. If you don't have pants or long sleeve shirts, Bring and wear bug spray.
