This is the longer coastal route of the Camino Português, which is the second most popular route, good for wine lovers, as it passes through many wineries. It starts in the city of Lisbon, this route, first traveled by Queen Isabel of Portugal in the 12th century, heads north following the Atlantic coast of Portugal and Spain. You can find the shorter coastal route starting in the city of Porto here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/portugal/porto-and-the-north/camino-portugues-coastal-porto-to-santiago-del-compostela?u=i This route also goes through smaller towns, and as it is on the coast the weather is more moderate than the inland route, which you can find here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/portugal/porto/the-portuguese-way-of-saint-james-central-route?u=iShow more

With its bright blue skies and shimmering white buildings, there's much to focus on in this bustling harbour city located on the western edge of Europe, most notably the nostalgic trams that crawl through narrow streets up steep hills to head-spinning vantage points known as miradouros. From there, the views stretch over the old city beyond the Rio-style Cristo Rei statue towards the Arrábida mountains in the distance. Show more

This loops starts and finishes at Jardim da Parada in Campo do Ourique. Via Amoreiras to Ponte de Monsanto towards and into Monsanto. In the park there are many routes to follow including trails for mountain biking. This route takes you down all the way to Algés via a different lookout points, which you may include in your stops. From Algés the route is all flat along the river. Via Belém with the Monument to the Overseas Combatants, Belém Tower, Padrão dos Descobrimentos, Jerónimos Monastery, MAAT to Doca Santo Amaro. The final uphill battle (quite literally as you’re destroyed by then) through Tapada das Necessidades and finally back to the starting point; a 25km loop.Show more

Compact, cosmopolitan and spread across seven hills, Lisbon is very much a walker's city. With its temperate year-round climate, the city offers as much low-season appeal as it does during the long, hot summer months. The Lisbon Highlights tour starts at the Castle of São Jorge and winds up beside the river at Praça do Comércio, passing through four of the city's most historic quarters – Alfama, Baixa, Bairro Alto and Chiado – en route. Stretched out along the riverbank just 15 minutes west of the city centre, Belém (which means Bethlehem) reflects all the grandeur and heroism of the Age of Discovery. Most of the great Portuguese maritime achievements of the 15th and 16th centuries, that extended the horizons of Europe to new worlds in Africa, Asia and Latin America, departed from these historic shores. There's much to see and admire, including the imposing Jerónimos Monastery where the tomb of Portugal's most intrepid explorer, Vasco da Gama, can be seen in all its splendour. A series of other monuments, museums and palaces makes Belém the perfect place for a half-day walking tour. Show more
