beautiful walk through the plantation!

Seagull remains aren't ideal but, otherwise, this is a beautiful and really fun hike if you're open to some wading.

Great little trail to see the beautiful plantation!

Make sure to do the full loop, the water merge into the ocean, beautiful view! Would rate moderate for those who are afraid of heights. Muddy and slippery after a rainfall.

Probably best avoided this time of year (early May) as there are a lot of aggressive seagulls guarding their nests, we had to turn back. This was from just beyond the smaller lake at around the 2km mark. The first section was beautiful though so still worth doing.

Beautiful trail!!! Have to do a little bit of bush whacking from the main beach to the base of the mountain (back through the forest) if you plan on doing the loop. When we went the little creek coming out to the beach appears to be where the trail used to be so just walk along beside that!

Nice flat trail around the lake. TIP: walk clockwise around the lake to avoid paying a 2 uro entrance fee (which they charge at the entrance to the mineral hot springs)

Very nice path around the lake. Part of it is on a path next to the road but most of it is pedestrian only. The part from the church to the hot springs was specially nice, nice trail and plenty of trees.

on Fogo Ridge Loop

Amazing trail but not an ‘easy’ trail. Moderate is more appropriate. Parts of the ridge line stay wet, muddy, and slippery for days after rain. Some short sections are quite steep and require good mobility to get past. This is single track all the way...watch out for small patches of gorse and brambles. The best trail to do if you’re visiting Fogo!

This trail would have been amazing if the water wasn’t so high! We ended up hiking about 5km in and waded water two times. The third time the water would have been up to our shoulders. So we decided we had to turn back. Not the mention, the water was FREEZING. At the right time of year (we went mid March) I can imagine this hike to be 5 stars. The views were stunning. However, the hike does not go around ridge but rather at the base. There are also sooo many seagulls and you are walking on sand for about 1-1.5km. Hope this helps :)

A great hike, but maybe not a beginner trail, exactly. If it's been wet recently, there are some slick spots, so take your time. Otherwise it took me about 90 minutes in total with a few stops and I'm quite the novice.

Pleasant stroll through tea gardens and up a hill. The second half of the loop was a road going back down lacking views or real beauty. I highly advise just going to top of hill in tea gardens and back down personally. If doing the entire loop I would do In reverse next time to end with the better part. To do that hang an immediate left once in the gates across the road from the tea building. There will be a skinny trail along the fence line if you want to do in reverse. I have 4 stars for the pretty tea fields and unique value. There are not any spectacular views but more pretty ones. Take away the tea fields and this would get 3 stars.

Lovely tramp thru a tea plantation with great views of the countryside.

We enjoyed the walk nice and easy lots of photo opportunities on the way around

A pleasant walk in November with only 1 small car on the back of the lake. The high view point is reached only by a narrow vehicle road. Easy bus rise to Furnas from Ponta Delgada.

Weather was unstable when I was there therefore I had to cut my hike shorter (there are trails unmarked on this map). Please note that walking on the ridge can be hazardous when wet and rainy and it is advised to have long trousers or a machete. Otherwise it is mind-blowingly beautiful.

You walk on the same road that you drive to the trail. As a matter of fact it is not a trail but a road walk all way long. Easy, flat walk but I think other places are more beautiful on the island and deserve to have more time than this walk.

Grandma friendly and pretty. Park at the lake and add the gardens. Nothing but cow pasture or busy rode if you start your hike in town

Half of the way is on the road with cars. It's better to do half way and go back. You won't see anything new on this half. I am really disappointed because of this car-road trails all over the island. They have high reviews but if you have something to compare to, it is 1-2 stars. Why you call this a trail if I can drive my small car on it? I don't even need SUV.

Nice easy hike around a beautiful lake. Lovely views all around and an abandoned chapel about half-way. Calderas and thermal springs are interesting as well. Love Vale Das Furnas and São Miguel!!!
