A really excellent short trail BUT (!!!) several issues. 1. significant portions of the trail are not marked (from 7 - 5.6 km and from 3.7 - 4 km) - I walked the trail counter clockwise. 2. ALSO (!!!) on the unmarked portion from 7 - 5.6 km the Trail is marked is not correct, and doesn't follow the GPS if you are trying to figure it out somehow. Eventually it reconnects at km 5.6. The path as it appears on the Alltrails GPS track makes no sense and goes through impenetrable or heavy undergrowth, whereas the trail I followed - with a few false starts in different places - does follow an established track. 3. I would describe the trail as moderately DIFFICULT if going in the direction I went. THere are two steep sections which would be downhill if you do the circuit clockwise. ONE of these sections would be difficult if you took the route I took on the unmarked section. 4. I don't know what issues you would encounter doing the trail clockwise, since from the clockwise direction the trail follows another trail (the San Luis to Cercal section of the Historical Way) and there is no indication as far as I can make out of where you turn at km 5.6. So if you feel confident and have a GPS with you, you will find it is an excellent trail, with two very high points that give very good views to the west. The trail goes through woods, farms, and hilly countryside - exceedingly pleasant, with few other travellers, and lots of birds. My issues with the lack of trail marking and the incorrect GPS vs Trail path (as provided by Alltrails app) were minor irritations. It should be easy to fix these issues. I hope someone does.

we were a bit unlucky with the weather. The site gets easily foggy and could not appreciate any view point. The worst though is the fact that more than 6kms of the hike are on road with no walking path (you litterally have to walk on the street where cars are driving very fast), combine that with fog and it's an extremely dangerous mix. We had to hitchhike the last Kms! Would recommend a different path. Just go up to catch a couple nice pictures of the views and go back. not recommend. Also, the not dangerous parts are a simple truck road with no nature around you.

Amazing worth the full 12.6 miles. Every viewpoint is beautiful !! Bring water and a snack. Took us 5 hours due to the hills

Wonderfull trail, the view is amazing (without clouds) but it's very cloudy and windy. The end of this trail is on the road, it's not very secure. But globally it was a good moment with scenic views.

beautiful walk around the crater but brutally long walk on the highway for a good 6km back to the car. bring lots of water.

nice views and easy track. Walking along a gravel road just isn't my preference.

Very nice walk around the crater. Bring water...none available.

great views all around. just be cautious on the road in the immediate section after leaving the abandoned hotel

I wouldn’t call this a hike. I was under the impression that it was a nicely trailed pathway as seen in the popular boco do inferno photo. It is an old dirt road trail that takes you around Sete Cidades. Some great view points of the lakes but it is a long 20km trek on a dirt road. Would recommend spending time walking around Boco do inferno viewpoint.

Great trail. At sunrise, I spent the first two hours totally alone without seeing anybody. The view is fantastic. The drawback of this trail is the last stretch (at least 3 km) that you spend on the road in between the guardrail and cars passing by.

easy going but enough exercise through a natural and beautiful area of oaks and flowers going by a wonderful community of natural personal development called SerVivo with wonderful nice people. Top rate *****

beyond beautiful! at all angles. fun, not too difficult and made me want to keep going

Spectacular trail. Also I strongly recommend you go to the boca de inferno miradour somewhat off the trail. It is the most spectacular view in the island!
