Established in 1948, the reserve covers an area of 15 ha. The area of "Petrified City" is the first in the Carpathian Mountains where the structures of fossil submarine landslides have been found. In the concept of world geological heritage, this is a particularly important protected area, promoting the area to the European list of such monuments. The rocks found in the reserve are built of the Cieżkowice sandstone, which appeared about 30 million years ago (Cenozoic era, Lower Eocene).Show more
