Steep Hike with switchbacks, but definitely worth the view at the end. Could be very busy with the day trip crowds, so if you are there during early morning of anytime afternoon to evening you'll have the place practically to yourself. There is a store at the village if you'd like to stock up on snacks and food before making your way to the lake.

This was my first trekking trip and the views are amazing! Definitely take time to acclimate to the altitude nearby before starting this journey. I went with the guided tour with friends and was fortunate to have porters and a cook, so my experience is somewhat different than having to carry 10 days worth of gear/food. You can rent everything in Huaraz before starting your trek instead of having to buy them beforehand. I would avoid going during rainy season, I went in June of 2019 and it rained/hailed for 2 days during my trip. Happy Trekking!

Take the Overlook trail on the mountain side for the best views of the Laguna. Then hike the same way back down to get a lakeside view. If you're on a tour and come from the parking lot, you may not have ample time to do both so pick which view you prefer.

Great hike. Did this back in December and really enjoyed it. It is quite steep though, so if you aren’t great with heights I would consider skipping and doing other shorter hikes around the ruins. That being said, the view at the top is unbeatable.

Absolutely perfect in every way! The views are amazing! Make sure you hang onto the handrail tight while walking to the Inca Bridge ;)

What a hike and what a view....hard but so beautiful. We went there super early and it was nice before all other people get there.

Great hike, we started at 7:30 AM and made it to the top at 8:30 ish. It’s hard, we are in good shape and had to take breaks. We luckily did it when there wasn’t sun, I can’t imagine doing it with sun!! It isn’t moderate!

We hiked it in nice weather in early January just after rain had subsided. We did the 10am journey. There are some spots that are dicey but most have a rope to help you balance. My two friends and I hiked to both peaks and the cave and were done in under two hours. The three of us are all in great shape but expect to take breaks as it is a heck of a climb. Well worth it though.

I walked along the rail tracks to Chacahbamba (7.5km from Aguas Calientes - 104km) only to be told that I needed a ticket (and a guide!) to carry on up to Wayña Wayna. The woman at the check wouldn’t / couldn’t sell me one. Nice walk all the same, but double check first if you do actually require a ticket or not.

Beautiful finish, really cool on the way. Last push is tough and altitude makes it a bit tougher, “moderate” is a fair rating

Difficult hike - really fun, had a great time along the way. Finished in 2.5 days with the third day being the easiest, while the first and second were tied for toughest. Incredible views all around - doesn’t get much better than going through the pass.

If you’re afraid of heights this trail is not for you! It is a steep and demanding trail consisting mostly of original stone Inca stairs. There are some extremely steep parts but overall it’s very doable. Very physically demanding on the way up. Altitude plays a role for sure!! But the views from this hike are unbeatable!!!

Moderate trail for the experienced. Short trek. Sun block, water and proper footwear. Trail is straightforward. just watch out for the buses! Trail, itself is kinda boring but worth the trek to see the historic Incan treasure.

Super steep, but only really difficult if you’re not acclimated to the altitude. Gorgeous lagoon at the top, one of my all time favourite treks. We were really lucky, went up late December and only met 4 other people at the top. It rained on our way down and got insanely muddy.

The mountains on this route are unlike anything I've seen before. The altitude was difficult, the views were stunning, and the locals on the route were very hospitable. We did the trek in the rainy season, so it rained hard for half the day on two of the days. Luckily, the clouds eventually went away and we got the stunning views of the mountains. I would highly recommend, but be ready for the altitude.

Highly recommend it. 1 day short Inca trail hike from KM 104 to Machu Picchu. Good trail with rest stops and markings. Very steep and lot of steps but great views and worth every bit of it.

Honestly, not many hikes in the world can top this one. Very steep climb, but the view is worth it!

This is one of the most beautiful trails I have ever been. I would say the 2nd day hike was the most challenging. You have to be ready for the altitude of over 15,000 but it is rewarding the view that you get of this amazing trek. This is the reason to visit Perú .

We cannot recommend this hike highly enough! Not only is the Laguna 69 incredibly blue & beautiful, the walk to it also is just wonderful with an awesome landscape, waterfalls and other Lagunas on the way. The last kilometer is quite tough though, so be prepared :)

lots of stairs

I would not recommend going without guides in the rainy season.
