Did this trek a year and a half ago and would do it again in a heartbeat. Challenging and rewarding in every way possible. Got to stay in the glass domes at the end of the first day hiking to Laguna Humantay and saw more stars than I ever thought was possible. Glad we chose this over the Inca Trail

Hiking

Did this in September 2019. We got our first glimpse of Macchu Picchu as we walked into a clearing on the mountain across from the citadel. As we descended into the valley toward the train station where we would catch our ride to Aguas Calientes, it was definitely a bittersweet feeling, knowing we were almost done. I had an impulse to turn and head back up and hike back through the pass in reverse.

Did this in September 2019. Coming down Salkantay Pass to Wayra Lodge it gradually warmed up. The complete darkness and silence that night were surreal. As we descended further down the valley it got warmer and warmer, the clouds and mist disappeared and were replaced by the subtropic forest. We saw coffee being harvested in Lucmabamba, and fields of avocados, bananas and lucuma. I played soccer with a neurosurgeon, we were all friends by this point. Very good times.

Did this in September 2019, Humantay Lake is so beautiful. We made an offering of coca leaves to the mountain at the lake in preparation for Salkantay Pass the next day.

Did this in September 2019. Loved this, cresting Salkantay Pass was amazing, lots of horse bones and gigantic rock formations on the way up. Really misty and it started snowing as we gained elevation, I truly felt like I was on another planet.

Went here Jan 2020 - MUST SEE. So breath taking in person, bring extra layers just in case it's cold (it lightly snowed while I was there) and make sure to have gotten used to the elevation for a day or two prior to going!

I climbed Huayna Picchu in September 2019. Beautiful views of Macchu Picchu from above, good memories. Hopefully I'll be able to return to Peru someday.

Oh my god I LOVED THIS TRAIL!!! Ahh I want to go again. Difficult, but very doable! You get all kinds of trails on this route: Rocky high elevation in the shadow of stunning snow capped peaks, luscious green valleys with the trail following a flowing river, and of course your trails passing ancient Incan architecture. I haven't done the more popular trail to Manchu Picchu, but don't count this one out when looking to hike there!

HikingMuddy

Hardest hike I’ve ever done in my life. It started to snow and hailed at the summit but it was spring. Because of this, we sadly could barely view the mountains colors. The altitude was definitely hard if you are not used to it and was very muddy since it had rained the day before. Overall not my favorite experience of Cusco but probably better for someone more experienced.

Absolutely stunning. Did the trek with my brother last year and we walked from Tinki so the whole thing took us about five days. Overall it was difficult but very rewarding. We encountered few people, but were attacked by dogs twice during the trip. Luckily I’d read about the dogs being aggressive, and we were able to ward them off with our trekking poles when they leaped at us, but it was still an alarming experience. Both times we were on the trail but they were probably just being territorial of the nearby alpaca herds. The trail itself is pretty easy to follow but there are a couple of spots where it vanishes for a short while. The good news is there is an almost constant source of water nearby, so we never had to carry much with us at one time which definitely helped ease some of the weight on our packs. We did the trek in the beginning of July and the weather was great! It didn’t rain at all and only snowed once when we were headed down from the highest peak on the circuit. I highly recommend this trek to anyone looking for a little adventure among a beautiful and varied landscape.

Buy permits well ahead. I lucked out in getting the permits in 2018 and we took the first hike. The views were breathtaking and I felt on top of the world ! The morning sun spreading its rays on the ruins, the river and the mountains got me ecstatic. Expect to go on a steep and narrow staircase, right next to a chasm on the side. :)

What an experience!!!! I completed the trek in January. Besides our second last day which rained for half the day, it was perfect weather. The trails were pretty well maintained. We had to go off trail as the landslides and avalanches knocked out parts of the trail. I loved walking through all the different types of landscapes. I believe we hiked 90ish kms in 4 days. I would 100% do this again and again if I could
