Our favorite hike and ruins of our trip! We took a taxi to the top of the ruins and then hiked down to the town Pisaq. It was gorgeous 360 views and the ruins were pretty impressive. We didn't do Machu Picchu and feel like we didn't miss out because of this hike. I'd put this place at the top of your list!

As of June 23, 2019 the western loop access from main ruins is still closed. We stayed on the eastern side of the loop. Great time nevertheless.

As of 5-20-19 the western portion of the loop shown is closed when trying to enter from the main ruins site. There are many ruins on the Eastern portion, the different trails shown all have access to different ruins.

An off handed decision to fill in some time while in the region proved to be a highlight of my trip. No specific training but as long as you have the footwear, clothing for changeable weather & reasonable fitness, along with mindfulness of taking it easy as your breathing adjusts, you should be good!

Really nice and accessible trail. From Pisac the ascent is steep but well paved.. The way back is much easier. Overall though; no major difficulties. A must do in the Sacred Valley!
