Great hike lots of elk

Another of my adventures this summer at Yellowstone. This one is Norris Geyser Basin. Yellowstone is a dynamic hydrothermal wonder. Cut and paste the address below which will deliver you to my National Park Website and this posting featuring a story, pictures, and a video of that special day at the geyser basin, but also shows the beautiful Yellowstone Upper and Lower Falls. Great hike.

We happened to pick a wonderful hiking day (weather). Encountered various wildlife: bison (close!), nursing deer (wow!). Beautiful hike through meadows, past hot pots, and boiling areas. On this day ribbon lake was a deep gorgeous blue. Just a few fellow hikers. Well marked.

Great fun beautiful waterfalls, geysers and scenic overlooks.

Steep start but the trail levels out after about half a mile. Great hike for our family with a 5 and 3 year old.

Nice hike with a steady incline going up. The pine trees at the bottom were very vocal which was unexpected. There is not much to see on the way up but when you summit you get amazing views of Yellowstone. Me and my wife only saw one other couple during the entire hike.

Beautiful views of the canyon then turns inland thru some thermal areas, Lakes and meadows. Has it all!

IMPORTANT! Boiling river closes at 18:00, we arrived at 18:30 and access is prohibited. It was not written anywhere. Plan to arrive early

Great trail, with awesome views of geysers, not too difficult mostly flat.

easy walk up the hill and great trail to lake at the end that you can go all the way around. worth the stop.

The Spasm Geyser was my favorite! It was like a mini-Old Faithful that spouted constantly.

Super easy, not really a hike. However definitely a must see

We did this loop just because and it turned out to be one of my favorite parts of Yellowstone! The Rainbow Pool was my favorite. The loop offered a variety of sights.

Very easy.

Wonderful trail, incline rocky if you take right fork. Passes by gorgeous Mystic falls. When you reach falls. Get off trail and go to rivers edge and follow 3 ft dirt trail to foot of falls. Thermal vents spill into pool at bottom of falls and you can swim in pool. Top of mountain gives you a fantastic views of valley including Old Faithful geyser.

Pretty waterfall, and super easy trail.

Gorgeous view of the waterfall and canyon!

Very cool to be right on top of the waterfall. On sunny days, the rainbow is gorgeous with the water!

I loved the different views and areas. Very unique!

Did a 21 mile out and back day hike on this trail. I hiked far enough north to reach the park boundary. before turning around. Stunning scenery for a mid-September jaunt. Why not 5 stars? The horse manure from copious amount of equine activity created several wallows of muck that I had to tread around. Erosion/ruts from horse wagons are also evident. However, not enough of an issue to deter this hike, just be aware.

relaxed walk with a nice lake at the end.

Good easy in and out.... bridge is pretty cool knowing it is nature made. We added the upper loop to get the view from the top of the bridge as well. Were lucky enough to see a beautiful (what we think to be) grey owl up close and a small herd of elk as well. Only downside most of the trail is a paved road.... whomp whomp :(

I don’t know if I’d recommend the entire loop necessarily. The hike back from the falls is steep and then super boring. If you plan on doing it , id go up Bunsen first. It’s a nice moderate climb and the views along the way are pretty. The falls are really nice but I’m guessing there are better hikes in the park. It was still enjoyable in the end. We logged closer to 11 miles per our Garmin.

Nice view points and little back country valleys and meadows. Tons many downed trees, though. Wish they'd go through and clear some of them. Also, it's really easy to lose the trail in some areas. Long stretches with no trail markers. Just be sure to download the map and follow it as you go.
