Absolutely stunning views in both directions, and a chance to really test your resolve in the last mile or so.

Walking

Not really sure why there’s so much hype about this trail. The view at Hermitage Point was good but it’s a loooong walk through the forest to get there and back which to us didn’t seem worth it.

BackpackingGreat!

Nice views. Very little shade and some areas of deadfall. Well maintained trail with a very nice lake at the top.

Easy trail if you don’t add in inspiration point. Lots of visitors due to the easy access and relatively flat loop.

Went counterclockwise as recommended by others, great for first part which is leisurely stroll with few people. Once arriving to boat dock, way too many people for climb up to Inspiration Point and worse for the short few steps from the trail to the falls. Inspiration Point has some lovely views but you'll be jockeying with gen pop tourists for a spot to walk and take a breather or a photo. Check Leigh to Holly Lake through Paintbrush Canyon for a better hike (vs. walk) with just as magnificent views and way less people.

HikingGreat!Rocky

Trail was great! We left the south Jenny lake parking lot at about 6:30 a.m. and didn’t see anyone until we got past inspiration point. We say 5 moose on the trail, which was awesome. The last 1.5 miles were a heck of a climb up to lake solitude as it is exposed in the sun and very rocky. The way down was pleasant; however, it got very crowded once we were back in the canyon. We aimed to take the ferry back but it was a 45 minute wait so we opted to walk the trail back which was a little bit more than I would have liked. Round trip was 20 miles and about 2,700 feet of elevation gain. The canyon and lake are gorgeous. If you have a day; do it. The smoke from fires was pretty bad but the views in the canyon were much clearer.

HikingGreat!

Easy hike if you don’t mind the distance. It took a little under 3 hours, we started at 4 pm so it was pretty watching the golden hour and sun dropping colors. It was very beautiful. We stayed on the trail and didn’t go on any of the Moose lake or Falls because we started so late.

Awesome trail. Very crowded, but lots of people wearing masks as you pass each other. Get there early to have some moments of solitude and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Also, especially now check the air quality before you embark. When we arrived in Jackson on Tuesday 9/14 the Tetons were completely engulfed in smoke. We were fortunate to have great views the day we hiked Jenny Lake. Enjoy!

We went counterclockwise around the lake and started around 8:30 after a few stops on the drive to Jenny Lake. When we got there it was fairly quiet and plenty of parking. We encountered a few other hikers but not many. Once we got to Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point it was way too crowded, in my opinion. Most people either take the boat to the falls or hike the short section to and from. I would recommend to hike that section first and then continue around. The views of the lake were beautiful and the mountains were easily visible even though it has been pretty smokey the whole time we have been here. The trail is mostly flat but does have a few up and down sections. The trail to inspiration point is more steep. There are a few trail options you can take off of this trail, so consider that and we did see a moose by Moose Pond. All and all, I think a relatively easy hike apart from distance. We measured about 8.0 miles from start to finish without any detours. FYI when we got back to the parking lot at around 12:30 there was absolutely no parking.

Amazing hike. The views of the Tetons between cascade canyon and lake solitude are unbeatable. The entire trail is pretty rocky. Your feet will definitely take a beating but the majority of the trail is relatively flat. Only a couple sections with steep incline. Started from the string lake overlook trailhead (first parking lot by north Jenny Lake junction) and it was 1.7 additional miles to walk around the lake to the trailhead. Clocked 18 miles total.

Hiked about a week ago. Go early, it gets crowded. Totally worth going the extra 3 miles after the fork of cascade canyon, although it is a tougher incline. Beautiful views and the lake was great although it does get more crowded. Long hike and the wait for the boat back was 45 minutes.

Not for the adventurous . Did this hike counter clockwise as per some of the recommendations. We got there early and had no problem with parking. Had the trail to ourselves, until we got close to the falls. If your looking for a walk, this is the trail for you. If your looking for something special, challenging, and unique...choose another. It was a long walk around, we reached the falls that were already starting to get crowded. Took a few pics and left. Not worth the walk. Also, the map on this app is incorrect if you do it counterclockwise. Best option would be to arrive early walk straight to the falls and leave.
