Nice river and forest scenery. Fall colors were excellent. The white pines near the trail head are impressive. Most of the trail is quite steep and comprised of switchbacks to reach the summit which offers fairly good views but not as good as those at the Old Settlers trail head. As noted, one approach was closed so it's out and back on the same route.

There are numerous other trails in this area that are not listed in All Trails, maybe because they are horse trails. They are not bad to hike also although some sections have been beat up pretty well by the horses. I tried red, orange, and blue and enjoyed all of them more than this prarie loop.

If you are here, it's worth taking this short walk but without ice there's not much to see.

Very nice trail with great views near the trail head.

This trail starts out meandering along small bluffs standing over the mighty kickapoo. This portion of the trail is very scenic. The trail then pushes uphill away from the river and changes its demeanor. We found this section fairly grueling, compromising mostly of dirt trail switchbacks climbing to the top of a ridge. The view from the ridge overlook point is pretty spectacular and worth the haul to get there. The backway down was still closed from washouts. This is still a great trail even with half of it closed. Edit: We hiked this trail a second time and we took the "closed" back way down and it was completely passable. Sure, there is a tiny section of washed out steps at the very bottom, but you can easily step around the small washed areas (or just walk right through them, the washed area is really that minor). We left very confused as to why that trail is closed.

Great short trail. The "ice cave" is a nice feature to walk to for a short hike. There was a decent waterfall into the cave while we were there.

Nice trail. Went on a Saturday morning and only saw two other people. There is elevation change but not difficult. A little over grown at parts but not too bad. Dog friendly. Took about an hour at a slow pace. Restrooms at trail head and lots of parking.

A nice hike through coniferous and deciduous forest. The Taylor Hollow overlook could have used some pruning it was pretty overgrown so there was not much to see there.

moderate trail in the beginning along the Kickapoo River amazing sandstone formations and lovely kickapoo river mid way you'll start a steep climb up the front part of the mountain which can be difficult for some. The back side of the mountain trail is still washed out so you'll have to come down the way you came but so worth the hike as the lookout is gorgeous at the top!!

Nice trail. There were some trees down covering areas of the trail that might create difficulties with children.

Very nice trail. Definitely a leg and butt burner first time out this year. But well worth it.

The loop along the back side of the mountain is closed and lots of the steps are washed out. The area along the river up to the outlook is gorgeous. Its easy to miss the right turn to go along the river at the start of the trail so watch the r trail markings.

Nice, occasionally steep lollipop loop exploring the north side of Wildcat Mountain. Oak forest dominates the ridgetop, but some pine plantings will be found on the lower slopes. Taylor Hollow Overlook on east side of loop was very overgrown. Combine this hike with a short, flat hike through ridgetop overlook area on the west side to get the best views. Good leaf-peeping in early October. Overall, best hike at Wildcat Mountain.

aspects of trail are difficult. if leaving form the picnic area / play ground area, you immediately go down a set of stone stairs. because it is a loop, you have to climb up these stairs at the end. other than that, pretty easy trail. not completely flat but large portions are

Great little hike for the springtime during the thaw! Can just walk in and explore and back out.. so good for little kiddos!

Not a difficult trail, good to take older kids on (it is a little long for little ones). Usually free of poison ivy, mostly ferns and wooded. Stop at the observation point on your way in or out!

Great hike, views of Kickapoo River, spectacular observation point overlooking river valley.

Great moderate loop hike. The trail is wooded and is free, for the most part, of invasive plants. There are a lot of ferns, and other native plants present.

An okay hike, with a few areas of exposed rock that was cool. The best part is (when entering or leaving) Observation Point, beautiful overlook. Nice little park and picnic area for the little ones.

Fun easy trails, barely run into anyone. Old settlers trail is dog friendly while the hemlock trail is not. Just a heads up!
