Located on the beautiful St.Croix River, Interstate State Park visitors can climb the cliffs of the St. Croix River Dalles, canoe the flat-water, watch kayakers rush through the rapids, or relax on an excursion boat. Spring brings a great diversity of wildflowers and in fall, the St. Croix River Valley forest is ablaze in the autumn colors of red, gold, and orange. The geology that formed this park intrigues visitors, and brings geologists from all over the world. At least 10 different lava flows are exposed in the park, along with two distinct glacial deposits, and traces of old streams valleys and faults. During the summer, hike the trails and explore the glacial potholes that make this park unique.

beautiful day we trekked, plenty of pictures making sure of no sprained ankles.

Not hard. We hiked with a baby in a front pack and two dogs with no problems. If you are a frequent hiker you will love this trail

Nice little trail

Great trail and very well maintained. Beautiful.

Great trail, moderate to easy but wear good shoes so you can climb on the rocks easily

Paved mile trek around a very smelly lake. No thanks. Ideal for strollers.

Beautiful views and not too crowded. Definitely a easy/moderate as there are clear paths and stone steps. It’s only strenuous if you take advantage of the many little side paths that require a little climbing. If you don’t do these it’s nothing special.
You get a bit of everything in this hike, with some nice height and view of the valley at the summit, some serene woods, some river access to cool your feet, and a few rock faces for experienced climbers with equipment.

One of my favorite trails!!

Really unique and beautiful - kids had a blast as well. The potholes are so much fun to see, and the scenic overlooks on the Saint Croix are breathtaking. Definitely will go back to do more exploring.

Beautiful views, but moderate difficulty at most.

I would rate this as low moderate. There are many steep drop offs and there has been deaths in this area from falls. I took my two eight year old's and my 3 year old on my own, as we often do Mom and kids camping trips. They all made the whole hike and had a blast. I did have to hold my 3 year old's hand when walking down the rocky parts, up some of the steep parts and along the steep drop offs but her loves to hike and did pretty well. I would not suggest bringing a child that you would need to carry. It is steep and slippery with roots in many areas. I would also avoid bringing young ones to the lookout or making sure your holding on to them tight. Even teens might get a little gutsy and take a tumble that could be deadly. Just take your time :) This might be ranked difficult here but compared to hiking in mountains I would rate this a low moderate or difficult beginner hike, primarily because of the rocky inclines and cliff areas.

OMG, this trail was beautiful! Several trails around this area. They are short, but beautiful and you can def. make a day out of it if you do more than one. Seems to be a very popular area to hike and for good reason.

Great hike! We brought our 2 and 6 year old kids with us and they had a ton of fun! This area is as close to the mountain trails we hiked in Montana that we have been able to find in the area. Don't let the difficulty rating scare you off, we would have rated this as moderate.

Lil ole St. Croix. I love this trail and have been on it my whole life. There is something for all ages here. Personally I like climbing just across the River in Taylors Falls. Over all I would definitely recommend a peak if you are in the area.

This is one of several trails within the Interstate Park in St Croix Falls, Wi. All of the trails combined might equal 8.9 miles but this one is less then 1 mile so don't feel as though you'll need to conquer all 9 miles. The views are exceptional, the trails are fairly rugged and well marked. There's no chance of getting lost here.

The trails here are well marked with not a lot of flat ground. Lots of rocks to climb, bluffs to look over, and expansive views of the river valley. This is a great day trip that I would recommend for just about anyone.
