Best trails in Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area, West Virginia

Most hikers prefer to do this hike clockwise. Follow the yellow blazes Once on the Tuscarora Trail, blazes are blue and then are white on the return down the mountain. This trail has several stream crossings. Show more

The trailhead is basically at the intersection of Tobaggan Hill Trail and Moundbuilder Loop in the Woods Resort. There is a parking lot next to the gravel road which leads up to a fence with the trailhead (and sign for Wintercamp Trail) to the left. Please be careful where you park as some areas of roadside parking are towaway zones.Show more

This is a 11.5 mile loop that utilizes the current Tuscarora Trail (TT), former TT and some ATV trails. Start at the Audubon Road parking area and follow the current Tuscarora Trail south (light blue blazes) along the ridge top for about a mile where it leaves the ATV road and goes down the mountain to the southwest (ignore the fake bright blue blazes and only follow the standard PATC 2" x 6" light blue blazes). Continue on the TT south until you get the power line cut at about 4.5 miles. Leave the current TT and head west along the power line road, cross the creek/beaver pond (can be wet and tricky) and make a right onto the old TT after about 0.5 miles. Follow the former TT for 2.2 miles (faded blue blazes) up to the top of Sleepy Creek Mountain (SCM) and the active logging area. Follow the SCM Trail north for 2 miles. Turn right onto the ATV road follow down the mountain to Meadow Creek. Ford the creek and head up the steep trail to the current TT. Turn right and follow TT south back to the Audubon Road parking area. Show more

From Devil's Nose Parking area, follow access trail to right turn onto the blue blazed Tusacarora Trail and follow to Devil's Nose. From Devil's Nose, follow blur blazed trail north to the white blazed trail to the top of Sleepy Creek Mt. Follow Sleepy Creek Mt trail south for 3.2 miles to ATV trail. Turn left and follow down mountain until you reach Meadow Branch. Ford the creek and follow ATV trail up the steep grade to the blue blazed Tuscarora trail. Turn left and follow the Tuscarora Trail back the Devil's Nose access trail and the parking area. Show more

Please note that the parking area at Toboggan Hill and Moundbuilder closed. A fairly level walk in the woods, until you need to walk up the gravel end of Wintercamp to get back to parking area. This hike goes through the new Wintercamp Park community gathering place. Well marked with white blazes. Show more
