Great trail, well maintained

Just a little mud. A couple blow downs. Very enjoyable trail.

Nice trail, but maybe not the best after a rain...that puts you walking up a steep hill through a stream. Also, as of Memorial Day Weekend there was a recently fallen tree blocking the path at the ½ way point. You can get around it, but you have to go off path through some briars.

Trail was muddy (did rain the last few days). Decent hike with sections that will get your heart rate up. Very enjoyable. Good hike.

We added in a middle ridge loop, but overall great hike! Perfect for May, very green and lush with the stream running beautifully.

Actually this trail then combined with black bear mtn bike trail. About 65 degrees. Very steep. No view to speak of. Roughly 2,300 ft elevation in 4.1 miles.

Incline trail. Nice hike though, just wish the view from the rock was better. You do NOT come back out at the start point. It will be about 1/4 mile from trailhead.

Great hike. Uphill to begin. Levels out. One decent rock lookout. Descent follows creek. Loop trail that ends just down the toad from where it begins.

There is one fairly steep incline, but after that - the trail flattens out. There is a beautiful stream close to Alligator Rock and a Geocache!

Fun trail I do often - I always drop off at alligator rock instead of finishing it out as mapped. Great views. See the rock over look at the top of the hill as well! Cold and rainy when we went today and mud was average to minimal.

Nice trail. Good trail for an easy 4plus to stretch the legs.

Nice trail, with enough elevation to get your heart up some. The overlook wasn’t much on a rainy winter day, but still an enjoyable trail. Some of the rocks on the western side of the loop are a really crumbly sandstone, so watch your footing on those.

My favorite little day hike to stretch the legs.

Awesome park just 7 miles from Charleston.

Solo walk on a cool December morning. This is a very nice, relatively short loop. Well marked with some incline, nice views, lots of cool rocks and vegetation.

As mentioned, this is not an out and back. It's a purpose built mountain biking downhill run. While a pretty area please be cognizant of downhill riders, they're taking on a lot and in some sections it can be quite dangerous to try to stop. Keep your head on a swivel.

Hiked this trail with the wife and 3 kids. Then entrance was a little interesting since it is an Emergency access road up to the Bob Ward Pathway. We decided to take the path on the right (up the hill) first. The ascent was a little steep, but everyone (13,6,4) made it. We took a break at the top and enjoyed the scenery. The end of the Bob Ward takes you to another service road until you get back on the trail. At this point, it splits but you will want to take the path on the left which will take you to the Hemlock Falls Trail. That trail is a really nice path with plenty of scenery (rocks and trees for people to climb). The majority of that path is covered and cool. You will come back out to Polly Hollow at the end. Please keep in mind if there has been a great deal of rain, part of these trails will have creek crossings. Our hike didn’t involve that because of the drought. Have fun and hike on!!

Steep trail - as is most of Kanawha State Forest. Saw a horned owl here!

This is a fun section of hiking. As with most of Kanawha State Forest, it is steep, but well worth it! No huge views but the alligator rock is pretty cool.
