Gorgeous hike with lots of shade and stream crossings...wouldn’t consider it easy maybe more moderate especially toward the end. All in all a nice clear your mind kind of hike

I wouldn’t rate this trail as easy. It gets pretty rocky half way in and you have to step lightly. I wouldn’t recommend taking kids either. The water crossings would be nice for them but that’s about it. I’d hike it again because it was peaceful and clears your head, but it’s not an “easy” trail.

Pros: Well marked with purple blazes. Not crowded. I saw one other person with two dogs. Beautiful views of both VA and WV. Trail has a little bit of everything with 3 stream crossings with small waterfalls. Easy enough to jump rocks over. Although more rain would make it more difficult I expect. Big rocks to climb on towards the top for overlook pictures.

Cons: I would probably rate this trail as moderate due to the length and steepness. It’s a long way up going in and a long way down on the way back. The trail also gets very rocky towards the top so coming back I had to be very careful so I wouldn’t slide on all the loose rocks. Wear appropriate shoes because I expect your toes would be all bunched up at the front of your shoes on the way down. I had on hiking boots so I was okay. Also some of the purple blazes were hard to see towards the top as they were on worn rocks. The trail is very obvious though so it wasn’t a big deal.

All in all this was a great Sunday hike with my dog. We took advantage of the solitude and did a lot of exploring because this was a new trail for us. Will definitely go again.

Did Little Sluice as a 13 mile circuit and overnight trip several years ago. Camped on the summit on a near freezing January weekend but the sunrise and sunset were fantastic. The views were probably better due to the trees being bare at that time of year. Definitely check out the rock scramble.

Great trail! Went out on St. Patrick’s day for an overnight trip. Saw a good amount of people. Great hike to get some elevation without super strenuous uphills. Excited to come back and do this again.

A very nice hike. Too many stream crossings too count. Those crossings are fun and not hard to do (in the winter at least).

Trail was great and well marked but was definitely not an easy trail. We brought the dogs and they seemed to enjoy it, but I would classify it as a moderate.

should be moderate and not easy. steep climb in several areas, but gasline view was awesome. also crossed 3 small streams

Nice steady incline, over a thousand foot elevation gain in two miles, up Little Sluice Mountain. Spur trail off of Little Sluice Mountain trail not blazed and no marker present, so take unmarked trail on left at about 2 mile mark to reach summit. Short, but somewhat technical scramble up rocks to get up on top of "Little Schloss". The rocks are the attraction; actual peak is covered in trees, so going past rock outcrops is pointless. Great view of Big Schloss, to the west, and main valley of the Shenandoah and Edinburg to the east. I took my dog, and thinking he could not make it up the boulders and scree, I tied him to tree at bottom. After whining when I got out of site he pulled his collar off and was on top in seconds. I was very impressed as I don't think that most dogs would either attempt or be able to do this. Map at trail head does not show spur trail and is not very accurate, so best to have a map or app if doing it for the first time.

Have hiked Big Schloss in Fall, Spring and Summer. Great trail starting from the Wolf Gap camp ground on the ridge between Virginia and West Virginia. Fantastic, panoramic views both during the hike and also from the stunning rocks at the top. Very unique. Takes us usually 3 hours round trip - including time to sit and enjoy the view at the top.

Great hike. We did the complete High Road-Little Schloss-Big Schloss circuit. First 1.5 miles up is STRAIGHT up (no switchbacks) and tough. Great reward at the top. Great camping sites and lots of water.
