If you look at peoples actual tracking of this trail you may notice that many people show the trail as much further than 3.9 miles. We didn’t catch that until we already drove to the park. The issue is that the actual trails don’t start at the Grist Mill. The trailhead is back up the road and down the road to the cabins. I believe the trailhead is around cabin 6 or 7. This is at least 1/2 mile away from the Mill. You can’t park at the cabins unless you’re staying there. We ended up just going to the swinging bridge and doing a smaller version of the trail as we were running out of daylight. There’s some moss covered, slippery rocks to the swinging bridge. Aside from that the rest of the trail is easy. The part of trail that goes along the old road, way behind the mill, seemed to barely be used. We were the only people on that part of the trail.

Short, gorgeous hike. Would classify it more a moderate difficulty, just given how rocky it is and that there is a fair amount of climbing. It is also very slippery when wet.

Pretty and short hike. Grist Mill is very picturesque.

Great trail! Started at the Grist Mill. I did this one in reverse to the AllTrails map. This forced me to go Up Rocky Trail. It was a rainy day but nothing bad at all. A third of the way up Rocky The rain didn’t matter you were getting wet regardless! Overall a great hike. Be sure to catch both bridges!

short interesting hike if your in the area worth the quick trip

Nice trail, I would rate it more moderate than easy though. Definitely wouldn’t bring my dog on this trail, but had an enjoyable hike nonetheless!

Started at the Mill. Fairly short but nice hike. Uphill and rocky. There are two wooden ladders in place and you climb through the rock. The second ladder was loose and slipped out. Check the placement. Not a fabulous view but the trail was short and view was good. Cool little rest hut at the top. We had a snack and talked to some nice people.

Great afternoon trail. We started at the Grist Mill and hiked uphill to the Cabins to start. Not overly rigorous but a great hike. The nicest view can also be driven to via a car, but very beautiful. Rocky trial is well, rocky and a steep descent. Glad I was going down and not up. The swinging bridge on Narrow Gauge Trail is cool and a nice place for pics. Hike out from there is long but easy. Easy to miss the cutdown by Cabin 7 to the 2nd swinging bridge. We missed it and went a ways uphill until we ran into a black snake-our second on the hike-and checked the gps. Went back to catch the swinging bridge and finished our hike.

Nice and moderate trail with lots of rhododendrons.

Not an easy trail for average people. Very steep areas with narrow paths and lots of tree roots.

We parked near the wilderness trail. It was easy but a lot of trails to get to the views were grown over.

The rhododendrons and mountain laurel were all in bloom when I did this trail, so it was beautiful!

Our dog did just fine with us. Rocky, yes. But also has a lot of flat, and easy climbs. We did see some black snakes tho, due to the rocks. Just be careful.

I started at the Grist Mill and went up to the top and back down. I believe it’s about .5 up and .5 down. I think it is rated easy either due to the short length or because the one mapped above is the short version from the higher road. If you start from the mill, The trail is up and down; you are hiking some rocks and have to climb up through a rock. The park put out a wooden ladder at 2 spots. I definitely had my heart rate up at some points.

This is NOT an easy trail if you follow it all the way from bottom to top. Very rocky, lots of cliff edges, a couple of chicken ramps to climb up sheer rock faces...but so fun!

Fun short trail. There is some Little awkward ladders to climb so be prepared. You can always drive to the top of the hill and take the short hike

Very fun short trail

Nice set of trails. Well marked with blazers. No trash was visible during my trip. There is overgrowth in some areas so I would recommend long sleeves and pants (you can easily research tips on what type of clothing is recommended for hiking).

we enjoy this one with our dogs.

Starting from behind the mill gives you a steeper climb than if you start from the entrance off the road. The view was nice. Trail was overgrown when I went.

This trail was wonderful! It actually has two entrances, if you take the one behind the mill, it is a very interesting hike.

Also has a climbing area. Well worth adding it to your trail.

Short and sweet. Lots of Rhododendrons.

Friend and I hike this trail a while back. Even with the leaves gone the view is beautiful. Steady incline for the first part of the trail then FANTASTIC rocks around the base of the "island." Wrapping around the rock wall it gets a little funky but then once on top of the mountain it's perfectly flat!

Beautiful vista on the Skyline Trail, but quite a long way up. Didn't manage to finish the entire trail, but had lunch at the vista where Skyline meets the Old Pond Trail and ended up walking the road back to where we had parked the car.

Came to Babcock on a day trip with a friend and this was easily my favorite trail. Easy but fun climb up the mountain, and if you're someone who's into neat rocks and unique geologic features, Babcock State Park is and excellent choice.
