This hike through the forest is beautiful as long as you're not expecting scenic views along the way. The area at the top is "seedy" as a previous review described it because the top of the trail is accessible from the road beginning at Freshwater Bay Road! THAT was disappointing. From the beginning of the trail at the bottom less than 1 mile in is a path down to "Hidden Cove". This is the only scenic view I recall from the trail and is a must see, best enjoyed at low tide. It's a steep hike down but worth it!

The trail was moderately difficult going up (of course) and very easy coming back. The payoff however was quite disappointing. Striped peak trail doesn't actually go to striped peak. More like somewhat close to striped peak. The view at the "peak" was a very small lookout with overgrown foliage obscuring most of it. The area was also quite seedy.

Trail is actually closer to 5 total miles. See my photos for maps of the route and trailhead postings. Weather was great, there's an option to switchback down to a beach which we still regret not doing - it's a simple 0.75 mile downhill to a nice clean cove.

The "peak" is a mild view with overgrown foliage that obscures the sights of Mt Baker and Vancouver Island, which are only visible on a clear day. Best weather for this would be August. Lots of broken glass and shotgun shells in the parking lot adjacent to the lookout point, which is a huge bummer.

Dog friendly! Nice and shaded. Light elevation. Would recommend this trail if you're in the neighborhood.

Ok for short day trip, save yourself the effort of going all the way to the peak and go down to the cove instead

Take the side trail down to the hike-accessible only cove! We did and had the cove all to ourselves on a Saturday! definitely made the trip
