I came here yesterday with my 8 year old daughter and 11 year old son and we loved it. We actually just began our hiking every weekend family tradition about 3 weeks ago and this is by far my favorite. The start of the trail itself was a little hard to find seeing as you can come into the trail from different points but where all trails shows the starting is located was confusing. Once we parked at the park parking lot and walked on the Main Street we saw the Ellis Cove sign.
The trail itself had about 5 brides and steep stairways so make sure you watch your step! But the views of the lake and the city of Olymipia is beautiful. And they had a few hidden bear sculptures that my kids loved trying to find. I would definitely recommend this trail for anyone.

This is easily my favorite hike in the Olympia area. It’s short and slightly challenging but easy enough for my kids age 7 and 3 to do it with me. It’s beautiful, heavily forested with a creek, bridges and it leads you out to the rocky bay. I have hiked here in the spring time when little buds are forming on the trees, in the hot summer the trees provide some cool shade and in the fall with the contrasting color of the changing trees with the evergreens.

What a gorgeous trail tucked away in Olympia! It was lush and rich. The bridges and staircases were visually appealing and we were able to pop down onto the beach for a stroll there before finishing the loop. We loved the carved bears hiding here and there and also the wonderful views of the Capitol building across the water.

It's a nice little walk in the woods. Although the route says it is 3.1 miles, I took a bit of a longer route and it was well under that. When I look at the milage, I am estimating the time it will take to get me back for dinner.

Initially set out to run this, but the pathway is narrow in many places and it was fairly busy. Beautiful Cove… All of the trees are covered with moss and leaves, making the forest look even more alive. Love the little bears in the trees too… Super cute addition to this Cove.

I left the forest and walked about a half mile on the beach… It is all rocks, no sand but it was still a beautiful scenery.

Hiked this with my 2 year old granddaughter. (There are a lot of stairs) Cute wooden bears up high in the trees and beautiful scenery ❤️

Starts off hilly with a couple good declines and inclines. We took the outer loop and a couple off shoots to make it longer. It wasn't crowded even though we weren't on a Saturday morning. passed some runners and other casual hikers. Avid hikers wouldn't waste their time with it. But for us, it was a good way to get a reasonable hike in without going too far or taking too long. Well maintained trail. Good views of the water and the city.

Nice and easy walk with the kids. The trail is pretty level and very clear for walking. Surrounded by forest so it is fully shaded.

Gorgeous views of the Sound and the Olympics on a clear day. Peaceful and a short walk/bike ride/ drive from downtown Olympia.

Took my dog and son on this trail, we made our hike a little longer because we took the trail down to the beach, so it was a 2.4 mile trip for us. Beautiful and mostly shaded.

I love to walk this trails

Great trail that is mostly shaded with a few great views of the Capitol. Completed about 2 miles of the trail with my dog and three kids at a meandering pace in a little under an hour. There are a few steep elevation climbs and declines that can be challenging for older 2 & 4 leggers. Best part is it is right in town if you are from Olympia.

More moderate than easy, but very beautiful! several switchback and steep stairs. Great overlooks and my favorite part someone put several wooden bears in and around the trees. Look for them, they are a Suprise.

Nice easy trail for the kiddos. Close to home but still feel like your out in the wilderness. Fun trail.

The variety of scenery is appreciated. Tall evergreens with leafy deciduous with many streams trickling to the bay. Shady undergrowth, wooden bridges and STEPS. Nice hour spent this sunny afternoon.

So peaceful and green. Takes you out to the water which is very pretty!

Was a nice, moderate hike with a lot of elevation change. It was a nice day so the trail was really busy. Also has a cool geocache in the area. The shore has a lot of shade to hangout under. Careful not to get stuck in the mud when the tide is out.

Enjoyed this trail very much especially having some down time at the water. Many stairs and various elevations.

great trail with plenty of elevation changes!

I would rate this as a moderate trail. Very steep areas and lots of stairs. Not a lot of steady level ground. But pretty and quiet.

Easy hike to get to and my 4 yr old walked most of the route too! Lots to see

Good views of Puget Sound from 200’ up or so... there are easy trails that go down to the beach... also there is a lovely creek that flows into the saltwater that entertained our daughter, and I fished a little with no luck tho. Fun hike for family.

Beautiful views - we went on a drizzly day, so not many people were out. The park is well trafficked, but totally worth visiting! A great place to take your dogs, just be careful of narrow sections of trail and the occasional dog off leash (in case you have an alpha pup with you).

An easy, pretty hike. There are 2 sides to this park. The Priest Point side takes the hike through woods of western red cedars, hemlocks, big leaf maps and sword ferns. Cross the bridge over the street and follow the signs to the beach and you are on the Puget sounds with views of the marina and capital. I did not hike the trail on the water side (Ellis Creek), that will be another day. A very nice hike indeed!

Nice and short beautiful walk. In the evening my husband and I decided to go for a "walk" this was our pick.

The trail is easily noticed, later on during the evening the shore began to rise. We had to climb over a tree to get back on trail because of the water rise.

As the directions at the beginning of the trail mentions (water will rise above shore.)
