8/22/19 One of the most beautiful views available of the North Cascades on a clear day. Definitely do not do this trail until July or August unless you’re planning on some technical climbing towards the end. The glacier was unreal and the last scramble/hike up to the top, about .5 miles, is brutal, but the view keeps you going. Snow at the top in August, and the weather changes fast that high up.

Lil update: (05/16/2020) 5 miles before reaching parking lot/trailhead there are chains and warning Sings preventing cars from continuing down the forest service road. (Due to COVID19)Even if you can somehow get around this in your vehicle, there are several more locked gates 2 and 3 miles in so I’d recommend just parking. The road to the trailhead is a gorgeous hike in itself and its 10 miles round trip with essentially no snow. Roughly a quarter mile from the parking lot is when snow begins and there’s very clear signs of past avalanches rolling over the road. The parking lot is buried in snow and if you do not have gps you’re going to have a hard time staying on the intended trail. The snow is relatively easy to walk on but we did not feel comfortable continuing on due to the rain, the certainty that we were alone if something went wrong, and our lack of confidence in staying on the trail. Still a great morning and beautiful views. Be safe.

sin duda alguna uno de los mejores senderos por los que he andado, con una gran recompensa al final de la montaña

Views okay. Trail in mediocre condition. Lots of people.

Great trail! Pretty sure dogs were allowed though. The sign said so at the time, just keep them on a leash.

Closed due to COVID-19

Did this a couple years ago. Fantastic. Main downside is the road leading to trail head is pretty rough going, be prepared for that. But view from the parking lot is spectacular! Lots of parking available too. Also, hike starts with seemingly endless switchbacks for a long time. But once you emerge from them you will love the views. Be prepared to be blown away with the view of glaciers and valleys at the overlook on top of Cascade Pass. I couldn’t stop looking and didn’t want to leave.

It’s a bucket list hike. Get a permit to camp, LNT. Best campsite I’ve ever been to. Grab a walk up at marble mount a day before, get there at 6am.

22 degrees when arrived at trailhead. A couple feet of snow on the ground but trail had been well used and easy to follow. took us 1.5 hrs to reach the lake. It was completely snow covered and serene. We were the only ones there for a while. This one is a high level easy not really moderate even in snow. KEEP HIKING!

The road to the trailhead is clear of snow (as of 11/13). I'd rate the trail as easy. It was mostly covered in snow/ice and I recommend using micro-spikes (and by the lake, there's deep snow). You'll get alpine wonderland sights of mountains, a frozen lake covered in snow, and you'll be glad you did this :) Will definitely come back in the Summer! Absolutely stunning!

Easy hike but for the ice. Shoes with traction recommended. So fun to see ice skaters at the frozen lake!

Trail was easily accessible. So glad we brought spikes as there was ice and snow. The lake was frozen and snow on the trail. Amazing views!!!!

Gate closed. Unless you want to walk 3 miles to the trail head to start your hike.

Great trail especially if you’ve only got a limited time. I did this hike on Monday morning and I’d say 90% of the trail is icy/snow covered. Don’t let that keep you away though; I did the hike with no spikes or poles and made it to the lake within 45 minutes (including stopping for photos). Get there early and beat the crowd. Side note: the lake was iced over except for a few corners.
